If you have Natural Camouflage, crossbow. You ARE the fucking Predator. Otherwise Shotgun, especially the pimped out one in BS2. But usually once I get the crossbow/speargun(what's the difference?), I don't use anything else. I also thought the Rivet gun was a huge improvement from the pistol.
I was always fond of the Tommy Gun.

Close second is the fully decked out Machine Gun and the third is the unaltered revolver just because it is a revolver.
I also liked the shotgun.
Actually, you know what all the weapons were great even if some had ridiculously slow reload times. It didn't matter because I was using charming thirties era guns, awesome.
The Crossbow was a little overpowered but fun nonetheless.
Also, one quick question:
If Andrew Ryan had really intended to make a utopia, why did he allow people to bring weapons?
EDIT: one more thing, I have not played Bioshock 2 and I don't think I will, meaning to disrespect to those who liked it, for me I just liked the story of Bioshock and any continuation would only ruin the effect.

I'm going to have to say the crossbow. When you first get it, it takes 4 incendiary bolts to take down a Big Daddy.
The Rivet gun. It's rapid fire, and fully upgraded plus the headhunter tonic kills just about anything except big sister with 3-4 headshots.

Machine gun, for both games! A bit of incinerate, and then fire away with that, I pretty much never used anything else.
