Gamecube is the best. Those shoulder pads actually comfortably accommodated fingers, and the buttons had an ergonomic layout.

So nice.

The 360 controller is by far my favorite. Goes well with my huge hands and is perfect for shooters.
It's a pity I dislike the console so much.

Bought a fairly expensive 360 copy controller for my PS3, but of course Sony had to block all controllers that wasn't made by them. >.<

Granted I'm pretty biased in my view, but Playstation controllers win every time for me. They fit snuggly in your hand, everything's very easy to reach, and it has great symmetry and a bit of personality (the good old X, circle, triangle and square buttons are iconic). The only other controller I'm familiar with is the Xbox ones, and I just detest its D-pad.

I like my hitbox ( http://www.hitboxarcade.com/ ), almost all the advantages of keyboards and more flexibility. However I do expect to be the only one that likes it here.

Only ever had much experience with the N64, 360, Wii and PS controllers. So my experience is limited to those. Have to say that I loved the N64, although I didn't hold it as it is shown in OP's diagram; I held it with both hands on the outer prongs. Also really enjoy the PS controllers. They might be a liiittle bit too small. Otherwise, pretty good. They always seemed logical and symmetrical.

So toss up between PS and N64.

I really liked the Gamecube controller but the 360 is the best for me, but to be honest that's mostly because it's the one i had most experience with, its also really comfortable and good for my large hands unlike the tiny play station contollers

For most games, I'd go with either a GC/360 style controller.
However, for games that use a tank style controls, like Katamari, I prefer the analog sticks to be symmetrical on the controller like a PS2/Wii Arcade.

Uh, the N64. Is this really a question? Why was it bundled with the Dreamcast?

Yeah, I liked the console, but that controller was strange.

OT: I have to say GameCube controller. I like that the buttons have different shapes and sizes so I can easily tell which button I'm pressing even when I'm not used to the layout. I'm still not completely used to the PS3 controller, but I do fine most of the time now.

For general use I find the PS2/3 layout most viable (although I own a third party design that adds 6 buttons in the middle, also macro and turbo for those extra horrid button mash games), but with my big meaty hands it's not so pleasant to hold.

I'm a big fan of the Xbox 360 pad besides the battery pack and presumably the Xbox One will be doing that PS Pad thing of being chargeable so ask me in a year or so, and I'll say the Xbox One's.

XBox 360.

Right size, comfortable shape, logical and intuitive button and stick layout, real triggers and a corded version is available.

If the poll is adjusted for inflation (considering the age of the controllers), I'd say the Gamecube wins.

But the 360 controller is pretty solid. Even though it owes most of its goodness to the Saturn (missing from the image) and Dreamcast.

A toss up between the Saturn (Model 2 controller), and the Gamecube controller.

Both work perfectly for pretty much any game you throw at them, unlike other controllers such as the N64 that only really make sense if you are playing Goldeneye, or Perfect Dark. They are also extremely comfortable, and not overly large (Original Xbox and Jaguar controllers are guilty of this). They also don't give you finger cramps during long play, which the Dreamcast does to me after playing Jet Set Radio for a few hours.

Both are the perfect controllers in my eyes.

Here's a handy chart (which is missing Wii U controller):
I hate to be a Nerd, but it's Missing a hell more than that...

Most notably, The Saturn, 3DO, Jaguar, Turbografx-16, Virtual Boy, CD-I, Fairchild Channel F, Neo-Geo, Neo-Geo CD, Amiga CD-32, Intellivision, and the Atari 7800 Controller.

That's not even including the very Obscure systems, and the Japanese only systems like the PC-FX.

I've used a 360 controller, even for an extended period of time, but I just could not get used to how awkward it was to use the joysticks in two completely different areas of the controller. It makes no sense to me. While I would prefer the PS joystick be slightly further apart, I still prefer it any day because at least the stick are on the same level. That's just me personally, but whenever I see or hear someone say they like the 360 controller better, I just look at them with confusion. But, use what's comfortable to you I guess, you weird strange handed people.

Personally, the DualShock controllers are the most comfortable, as they fit my hands the best. I've been using the DualShocks since they first came out for the PlayStation, so that's just what I've grown accustomed to using.

Gamecube is my favorite controller, it just feels so right to me. Next would be the 360, then SNES, for its simple effective design. Then the Playstation controllers, I like them, but they never clicked with me.

I still never got why the N64 controller gets so much flack. I learned how it use it within minutes of playing Super Mario 64 and Star Fox 64. It's weird looking, but come on guys. >.>

I prefer the Dualshock 2. The PS3 controller is all great until I get to the L2 & R2 buttons, which have been killed by design, and I'm left wishing for my clicky PS2 trigger buttons back. If the 360's D-pad wasn't arse and the R2 & L2 triggers weren't so floaty it would be perfect.
