Poll: Best Decade for Cartoons (Updated)

First off, you skipped Looney Tunes..... Which is akin to skipping The Roman Empire when discussing European history. so..... WTF?

But yeah, for me it is a tie between the 1960's and the 1990's because I loved the shear humor of Popeye and The Jetson's ( btw half of the Jetson's stuff was actually made in the 80's. No I'm serious go look up the history) The Flintstones and as I mentioned before Bugs and the Gang..... GOD I miss the ACME HOUR.

Whilst the 1990's had some really original stuff that broke from the 800 He-Man/TMNT clones that existed...... We had Rugrats, we had Rocko's Modern Life..... AH! Real Monsters, Dexter's Lab...... and of course Batman TAS.

So yeah, I think it is just too hard to choose between those two.

As much as I want to say the 80's (for Transformers) but I'm going with the 90's instead since in that era, the catoons aren't so much dated compared to the 80's like e.g. I can still watched The Powerpuff Girls while laugh at how bad TMNT was if I wereto watch them today.

Nah, just kidding (except not really). Of the available choices, I vote 1990's. Because The Simpsons. I know the show's roots is in the 80's, but that's not the decade it defined.

Personally I think you've missed a lot of very different and brilliant 80s shows in your sort of samey selection, and while I think that 90s shows were probably just a bit better overall, the 80s had so many different kinds of amazing shows I'd usually have to vote for them.

Being the amazing shows they were, and being actually recognised as such, many of the great 80's cartoons saw re-runs well into the 90s, so as a best decade for cartoons and cartoon watching, I'd have to vote the 1990s.

Now where the hell are the re-runs of the Cosgrove Hall cartoons? Dammit the world needs more Danger Mouse!

Pretty much with you on this one. When you miss out the 30s, 40s and 50s, you end up skipping some of the best cartoons ever made.

The answer is the age of MGM/Warner Bros.

Seriously, compare an old MGM Tom and Jerry or WB Bugs Bunny cartoon to almost anything out of those eras in terms of both humor and animation quality (ESPECIALLY animation quality), try to tell me which one was better made.

Can anyone help me make those? Wikpipedia wasn't helpful in those eras. I also understand that many of those were theatrical short instead of TV programs.

A tough decision, but I chose 2000s. I grew up with the cartoons from the 90s, but the ones from the 2000 and onward were much better quality wise and it's the time of my favorite cartoons (Samurai Jack, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Megas: XLR and others). Quality over nostalgia for me.

OT 2000's for me since it's the stuff I grew up with and can still go back enjoy most of what I watched as much as I did when I was a child.

2000's are the only answer for me, because that was the period I had access to Cartoon Network.

The main things that come to mind for me are Teen Titans, Codename Kids Next Door, JL: U, Fairly Odd Parents, Megas XLR... Ah, good times...

90s for batman the animated series, tiny toons, animainacs, south park, and i was in college when this stuff was on .

I actually grew up on 80s cartoons and most of those just suck period, transformers was good but everything else just did not hold up well at all.

And when i was really young, classic bugs, pink panther, speed racer were some of my favs.

I think we can probably all agree that the decade in which we grew up watching cartoons is most likely to get our vote. So following that trend I'm going with the 80's.

I'd like to add some if I may. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light, Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, M.A.S.K., The Poddington Peas, Dangermouse, Count Duckula, The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin, Dungeons and Dragons (thought you escapee's would know this one).

80's was the best!

The best decade was the 80s. The 90s is a close second, but really, you can't beat that lineup. Particularly since you forgot Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers on that list (1989).

Now, if given the option, what I would have voted for was 1985-1995 - that ten year period includes all of the best animated shows ever, with maybe three exceptions.

Score: 01, You listed off mostly crap from Hanna-Barbera cartoons, which were extensive but not great quality, IMO.

The 1980's
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ducktales
Score: 02, Although I was aware of some of these cartoons, I wasn't alive when they aired originally.

The 1990's
The Simpsons(technically 80's), Animaniacs, Batman: The Animated Series, Freakazoid!, Sailor Moon, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Johnny Bravo, Arthur, South Park, Darkwing Duck, Futurama, Rugrats, Hey Arnold!.
Score: 15, But some of the ones I don't remember that well, like Sailor Moon, or my opinion may be a bit soured now but I still liked them once (like the Powerpuff Girls).

The 2000's
Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Justice League, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Spongebob Squarepants(technically 90's), Teen Titans, Venture Bros., The Boondocks, The Fairly OddParents, Kim Possible, Danny Phantom, Ben 10.
Score: 13, Again, there are some that I left on here that I might not like now but did like at one point, like Kim Possible or Samurai Jack. And sorry, I haven't seen Clone High, but wasn't that only like four episodes?

The 2010's
Adventure Time, The Legend of Korra, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Young Justice, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Score: 05, but I don't think it's fair to judge this decade against the rest yet, just because it's only two years old so far (maybe three, depends on how you count decades). Still, with stuff like this right out the gate (especially Adventure Time and hopefully a version of Legend of Korra that doesn't end in a trainwreck of an ending), I'm looking forward to it.

So, on scores alone, I'd give it to the 90s, but I'd probably have to recompare that against the 2Ks to be fair. What I like now might not be what I liked when I was eight.

On the other hand, Animaniacs would most likely be all the persuasion needed.
