Poll: Best First-person Shooter

Out of the ones on the list I'll have to go with COD (only because I haven't played the others).
My personal favourites would be:
- COD2
- Timeshift
- Timesplitters 2&3
- Mirror's Edge (if that counts, it is first person and you can shoot people)
- Star Wars Battlefront II

My favorite FPS is CoD4. Besides the single player, I've yet to find another multiplayer experience as fun, gratifying, and easy to use as CoD4.

My favorite one is Time Splitters Future Perfect. I haven't played too many others though but I love that one because you can play as monkeys. Not just one monkey but a few different monkeys. Also bot-matches. What the Hell happened to bot-matches and, split-screen multiplayer?!

All of the Cod's from 4 to Black Ops, Bioshock, TF2, and Fallout New Vegas (I count it as a mix between rpg and fps) are all tied because they each have somthing different to offer.

Excuse me? What ever happened to Half-Life, Serious Sam, Halo, Left 4 Dead, Doom, Quake, Rage, Team Fortress, Counter-Strike, Resistance, and Duke Nukem? Because, frankly, they're all worlds better than everything in the poll. Especially, since Activision has thoroughly-ruined the 007 games.

Tf2 and the Bioshock series. If Dead Space was first person then that would be there too, but sadly it isn't. Not that I'm saying I'd WANT dead space to be an fps. I don't. Not at all.

This is probably hilariously the only time I've seen a poll thread that has more responses than it does poll answers. OP, you dun goofed at making those options. Where's Halo? Killzone? Resistance? Star Wars: Dark Forces? Doom? Quake? Borderlands? The Darkness? Star Wars: Republic Commando? Deus Ex? System Shock/Bioshock? Half-Life? Portal? Left 4 Dead? Serious Sam? Duke Nukem? Wolfenstein? Team Fortress? Counter-Strike? Crysis? Far Cry? Unreal Tournament? Metro 2033? S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? Timesplitters? Heretic? Hexen? Or at least an "Other" option so people who want to pick those, can.
EDIT: There are a lot of first-person shooters, man. I even forgot Tom Clancy's Assorted Games, which is something like three or four different series', Star Trek Elite Force, and F.E.A.R. Or how about Shadowcaster, which is probably a game that nobody on this website will remember even if they've heard of it? Though I guess that's more RPG and less shooter... well, Fallout 3/New Vegas too then.

As for myself, dunno what I'd be able to pick. Maybe Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Crysis 2. Or maybe the Halo series as a whole, or the Star Wars: Dark Forces series (from Dark Forces to Jedi Academy, of course).

Took the woods right out of my mouth. There are so many shooters out there form the cartoony (TF2) to cyberpunk (Systerm Shock 2) and everything in between. Just 4 choices, three of which whose latest offerings are now rather samey doesn't do the genre justice.

I guess Portal isn't too bad. I really, really dislike first person shooters, though.

My favourites are GoldenEye, Perfect Dark and the Metroid Primes. Waiting for the PS3 version of Serious Sam 3, that looks sweet.

For me, it's Halo and the Half-Life games. Both have some of the best damn stories and the finest combat I've played. :3 I can't stand modern shooters. Bleh.

Out of those choices(which you need to add to) I say CoD. Not going with those options, however, I'd say it's a tie between Halo and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for me. I've had many long hours of fun with both so it's hard to choose just one.

How many threads have we seen with this EXACT SAME TOPIC, or at least a similar theme of "Best thing ever..."? The poll options are always limited and always just things the OP likes. Besides, almost no one actually provides an objective critique of what the "real" best thing ever is. It's always just subjective opinion. (like most of my list)

So, um...yeah. Whatever. :/

I almost listed the MechWarrior games, but they're more simulators than first-person shooters. (even though you shoot things from a first-person perspective)

Don't take this the wrong way; as I know you've been "under fire" lately; and I'm certainly not attacking you (or even singling you out), but I have to ask:

If you revile the genre of FPS so much, why bother making the effort to post that fact in a thread devoted to the discussion of what people consider to be "the best" in the genre? What purpose does it serve for you or for those in the discussion?

The only reason I ask is because I see this exact sort of thing all the time on this forum. Hell, just knowing topics will be derailed or twisted into something else has caused me to join threads I wasn't interested in in the first place. (and I hated myself for it afterward)

I mean, if someone started a "Which Final Fantasy is the best?!" thread, I wouldn't post anything because...well...I'm not a fan of the series. Ergo, I have nothing really to add to the discussion.

I'm just curious.
