Which console would you say is/was best looking purely as a thing sat under the TV, NOT in terms of graphics/hardware??

Just as a bit of kit, out of the box, nothing plugged into it, no addons etc, with complete disregard to how much fun you may or may not have had playing on it, literally just to look at the unit itself.

N64 and Dreamcast are my top contenders... at time of writting this not sure which will get my vote.

PC's do not count for this and the vote options only include original releases of the machines, NOT remakes like the new 360 or PS2-Slim etc, but can be thought of as different Color versions of the original configuration (ala N64 in new colors, Black Wii etc)

That new Black 360 is pretty good looking. And so are the 360's with custom paint jobs/faceplates. So I guess I vote 360.

Now I love my 360 (and N64 and Gamecube. Not my Wii)But I gotta say, compared to the PS3, it looks like an ugly brick. PS3 wins in appearance. The new black "slim" 360 looks nice though. It might be on equal terms with the PS3.

I like the SNES. It has something nostalgic about it. And it lookes like a gaming console, instead of an overdesigned dvd player.

From what I have seen of the current gen consoles, the new slim black 360 looks rather nice...
Apart from that, I'd say a Gameboy Advanced Platinum. Beautiful.

I'd say the 360. M$ took cues from Apple on this one, going with a sleek, white, concave design that betrays the boxy, bulky, or plain looks of the competition. Hell, they even made a big deal with the ring design as well, both on the console and controllers as well.

Plus you could always add customizable face plates with the old models, which was a sweet option really, albeit a total failure since they had too few options and asked too much money for each one.

Anyway, from a aesthetic, design perspective only, the 360 seems to have had the most effort put into it, more so than any other console in the poll.

the fat off playstation is actually the one where someone thought "hang on a minute, this has to be in some one's house... make it prettier" opposed to a massive poorly designed square like most consoles.
new 360 slim looks quit cool though, but thats only because i seem to have a thing for vents.

The old PS3 was, and still is, gorgeous, so very shiny. I even used to use it as a mirror sometimes. True story

The fat PS2. It had a no nonsense design with straight lines to make it easy to store, and it looked sturdy. Unlike older consoles, it could be stood upright or lain on its side.

Yeah, probably PS3, but the new xbox looks a bit better, but still not as good as the PS3.

I like the PS3. It's like a big, black solid block of technology that looks like it won't ever break.
Mine's lost some of its impact now that it's all dusty and grubby, but it still looks tough. And I like that.

This. The default 360 isn't too nice, but the amount of customisation options is scary. I used to have a Gears of War 2 faceplate with the side panels done as well, it looked amazing. I still have it but it doesn't work anymore.

The slim 360 and PS3 are pretty even. PS3 slim however does slightly remind me of a George Foreman grill.

Dreamcast! I loved the controllers with the VMU's. I love the form of the controllers, even though they lack a second analog stick (it was still playable). I'm a huge sony boy but I love me my dreamcast to this day...
