Well... I have already preordered Skyrim... so yeah, that
^^This.

Anybody else going to run around with 2 shields?
Can shields even be equipped to the main hand? either way: no. I'm gonna be a bow wielding assassin, using dual daggers in melee, and dual lightning spells when I wanna throw lightning.

On one hand, you have a game by the people who made Bioshock, which really wasn't such a great game gameplay-wise (or even story-wise, come to think of it).

Then they made Bioshock 2. Gameplay a bit better, atmosphere all gone, story a bit better, and a cool ending. Yay.
Disagreed with the first statement. Bioshock had a pretty excellent story for todays standards (albeit not incredible in general), but some might not have enjoyed it anyway. I would understand why.

The bold part of the second statement in your post, I just can't understand. Bioshock 2 had by all means an absolutely atrocious story. The characters and plot were so bad, I simply cannot play through it again, ever. It was one of the things that makes Bioshock 2 unable to compare to good games. Also, the ending was pretty bad, due to it using an incredibly stupid formula to figure out which ending to show you. It took away control at the worst possible moment, something that should not have happened in Bioshock 2's case.

This is the first time I've ever seen someone prefer Bioshock 2's story over the first and I've visited various Bioshock forums. Nothing wrong with having a different opinion, of course and neither of us are right or wrong, but I'm surprised nonetheless.

Bioshock, but neither really. I'm just not interested in playing a single game in either of these two franchises.

Dude, don't let Calumon go hungry! Feed your Digimon, he brings a lot of life to this place!

Where's the choice for neither?

I won't be buying either game. Both are far too overhyped, and I have better things to waste money on.

You should see how much he eats already! It's unbelievable! He will eat half a loaf of bread for lunch, and four hot cross buns for breakfast, with butter, AND STILL HUNGRY! My word, I guess being the catalyst for Digivolution takes it out of you, and thinking of something to type about things you don't always understand, but Calumon, you are no bigger than my desk lamp!

Calumon: And you never feed that thing either! >: (

I think Bioshock Infinite may be the better game but Skyrim will last you longer (assuming you enjoy it).

If you have a PC I'd say go for Skyrim. Mods coupled with the already present length it will have make the game last. Really, really last.
If not or if longevity isn't your thing, I'd say Infinite. It's looking to be a great improvement on the original (second is not made by the same hard team, it was pretty much a straight cash cow, unlike this) in all facets and should have some fantastic aesthetics to it.

But it's a tight one for me, really is. These are two games I'm getting if I have to eat potatoes for a few months.

I say skyrim, you'll get way more bang for your buck. Thats not to say Bioshock wont be any good. It just wont have as many things to do in the game. Also the releases are about a year apart, so maybe you could get some more cash by then.

I'm really excited for both, so I'll have to resort to an utterly arbitrary method of deciding.

The Arachnid Evaluation: Does the game contain a number of spiders greater than one? If so, are any of these spiders larger than a human arm?

SKYRIM: Yes, and yes.
BIOSHOCK: TBC, but it's set several miles above the surface of the planet, so I shall tentatively say No.

Bioshock it is!

I'm a fairly low-budget gamer. Most of the time I'll wait a few years for a game to drop a few bucks, rather than pay full price for it. But there are two upcoming games that even I'm willing to stand in line for on release day: Bioshock Infinite and Skyrim.

A little question for my fellow Escapists: If you could have either game RIGHT NOW, which would it be?
Wait until their reviewed, and pick the better one. If they are both reviewed well, pick Skyrim because it will mostly be much much longer, but only if it seems (to you) to be equal or better than Infinite. If by chance Skyrim turns out to be terrible or not all that good (to you), then get Infinite.

Well, since Skyrim comes out in November and Bioshock only has a release date of Q2 2012, there's not much to compare, But, I guess I'll say neither. Sonic Generations for me all the way. With some Skyward Sword and Arkham City in there too. So, I guess I'll be too busy to deal with those games.

If I had to choose right now, I'd say Bioshock, because Infinite looks absolutely stunning.

For myself I choose....Both!

No question I'd go Skyrim based on replay value potential alone...this game should pay for itself several times over before you put it down.

You could likely rent Bioshock Infinite and get nearly everything out of the game.

I agree with him that BioShock 2's endings were better. Whilst both have the pants-on-head retarded system of having you kill one Little Sister and making you completely evil even though you saved 300, at least the second makes this an interpretation of your actions by another character (at least poorly).

In BioShock, if I killed a couple of Little Sisters, I came back to the surface and took over the fucking world.

In BioShock 2, the daughter interprets how you've behaved and acts in a way that she thinks you would agree with. Granted, its still handled according to a bizarre balance-sheet, but it makes more sense.

Crikey, I think we've found our one.

Bioshock: Infinite all the way. I'm not fond of the Elder Scrolls series. I prefer my medieval RPGs to be more... D20ish.
