Usually blades, I find that in most RPGs the best in slot weapon tends to be a blade.

Blades. They are so much cooler.

And if your axe is blunt, you need to go sharpen it.

Most of the time bladed, because a lot of games don't know how to give the blunt experience.
I want to be Sauron when I wield a mace/hammer.

EDIT: Also, like the guy above me said, axes are not blunt. Even though Oblivion tells you it is.
They are not.

For the sake of argument, let's just keep it how it is, at least it keeps it balanced out (three on each)

You could always change it into Club/Staff.
But yeah, everyone understands what you mean anyway.

Bladed I suppose, although there's nothing more awesome than sword 'n' staff-ing it.

Hmm... MY choice will vary dependant upon how I feel like dispatching of my foes that day, pulverising or dicing.

Usually my sneaky characters have daggers and swords.
While my orc uses axes.

Not too found of maces at all.

Where's my "Piercing" option? Arrows for death from a distance.

Also, Daggers/Shortswords are usually Piercing, not Slashing.

I find Blunt weapons to be inferior to Blades in any instance. Except for those games where you fight undead, and blunt weapons give a bonus to damage

In a game, swords are usually shiny, sharp, and fantastic. In a more realistic game, blades would have the dreadful problem of getting stuck in things, this goes doubly for axes and spiked maces. Clubs are cathartic in their own, simple way.

Maces, flanged maces, hammers, war hammers, mauls, picks, clubs, flails, morning stars, batons, cudgels...I love them all. Blunt weapons tie with Polearms at 1st place.

I think it depends on the circumstances. Bladed weapons can certainly cause a lot more damage, but they are prone to chipping, rusting, dulling, and breaking. They don't work like in the movies where two people clash each other's swords for 10 minutes. Without constant upkeep, they are going to rust and fail.
Dull weapons are not quite as deadly, but are dependable and can be extremely effective if used properly. They are also not quite as dangerous to the user.
Personally, I think that the crowbar is the best and most practical weapon for a real life situation. In addition to being strong, sturdy, and having one edge perfect for gouging, it is also useful in non-combat situations. Things like prying open doors, breaking down structures, and getting into windows and locks are much easier with a crowbar. It also requires little to no upkeep and is extremely cheap.
(I play a lot of Half-Life. Sue me...)

It's all about both, nothing beats an over-sized Greatsword.
Tired of rending your enemies limb from limb? Tilt the blade 90 degrees and spank them into a new dimension!

I think warhammers and battleaxes are cooler. But i notice in many rpg games it seems like the best magic weapons are swords...such a bias. Not always true, but still a lot of the time. so i usually use swords since im a powergamer.
