From what I've gathered this was quite the question in the British Isles during the 1990's. I was wondering what people these days think. Which of the two bands do your prefer? And this just from when they are these bands, don't say Blur just because you like Gorillaz.

I don't dislike Oasis but Blur, it's Blur, Blur are the better band. I don't care what Father Damo says.

I don't even care about either of them, but Blur is better because I know Oasis reaaaaaaaaaaaaally sucks.

Yeah, my opinion is well-developed.

Suede.

[sub]Actually, that's the only song by Suede that I like, but it gave me an excuse to post it.[/sub]

Anyway, it's Oasis for me. Despite (or perhaps because of) all the drunken karaoke versions I've heard from the pub across the street, I still enjoy stuff like Wonderwall, Roll With It, Stop Crying Your Heart Out etc. I could only name a couple of Blur songs (Parklife and Country House) and I don't particularly have any fondness for either of them.

The one that wasn't desperately trying to be The Beatles.

Blur was more fun and less up its own ass. Their songs have also aged significantly better, while Oasis can't get rid of that 90's gunk. Also Blur actually let the one member of the band who could sing sing.

Blur, by such a long way. Blur were/are fun, interesting and different. Oasis... Snore. It's not exactly endearing that the Gallaghers are a bunch of tossers either, and they've dated badly.

Gotta go Oasis on that. 'Falling Down' takes it on its own, but I've enjoyed the rest of their music far more than Blur's as well, though that's not to discredit Blur; I've plenty of their work as well.

Oasis take it for me, not a fan of Blur's songs at all. Not a fan of Oasis either but the songs were probably heard more often so they have that familiarity and l'air du temps for me and they weren't as whiny sounding as Blur. In general just not a fan of the UK indie scene from the 90's, fuckin 6th form rock, balls to it.

What is this, the '90's?!

Oasis for their first two albums (Definitely Maybe and What's The Story?), and then Blur, for 13 and Think Tank. Generally I'd go for Blur, because they're artier and slightly closer to Radiohead (in spirit) than that bunch of Manchester City supporters. However, Oasis in the early days really did kick ass and make some great music. So I pick both, and kinda neither depending on era...

Bonus points for the Father Ted clip, btw.

Just out of curiosity, what does Blur have to do with Gorillaz?
Regardless, Blur get my vote anyway. They have more songs that I like (and I've only heard 2 of them), whereas with Oasis there's only one song that I actually like.

Hey someone said porcupine tree! ok, that aside, Blur are musicians who put some actual effort into what they create, whereas Oasis are just some 90s pop sensation with a couple o chords thrown together and some nasily singing. Oh and apparently they're twats, but I wouldn't know personally. Therefor I choose Muse!

I don't know many blur songs, but what I have heard has been all right. On the other hand, I can't stand oasis.

Oasis, by a country mile. Unfortunately when people think of Oasis they tend to think of What's The Story (Morning Glory) which is actually one of their weaker albums. Songs like
and
are more representative of what the band actually produces. Also (as you can hear with the above songs) there is a world of difference between Oasis with Liam on vocals and Oasis with Noel on vocals.

I like both but for me.... Blur is a better band.
Their songs have aged significantly better than Oasis's (imo). I also think they were less afraid to experiment more and (like somebody else commented) they were not trying to be the "next beatles" but be themselves and enjoy the moment. At least that's the impression they gave.

That would be an expensive dinner for one of us since I live in Japan. BTW, are you aware of Steven Wilson's solo projects he's been doing since PT's hiatus?

Musically I prefer Oasis, but I also can't stand Blur because of a particular psychotic ex-girlfriend and her love of Blur. Hearing them always reminds me of her and makes me want to rip my hair out in frustration. Crazy ass *****.
