You say he was a "genuinely good kid". Maybe it would have been better if he was genuinely smart instead. Even an idiot these days should know that people take bomb threats very seriously.

I knew someone a few years ago at my high school who posted up a letter at the office saying there was a bomb at the school, and also passed out cards during lunch break saying "If you have this card, you will not be shot tomorrow." He had...some problems.

how about we abolish the no child left behind thing so there might be a future of less idiots.
The theory of the No Child thing is a decent one, getting everyone less retarded is never a bad thing. Problem is, it doesn't work. It is like getting people in shape, it only works if the person on the receiving end of the experiment does what it is told. You can't learn anything without making an attempt and no one these does has the ambition to try and better themselves. They all think that someone will do it for them or they just don't want to bother.
It would help if all the role models these days weren't complete idiots and sluts (see Jersey Shore and everything else on the cool-kids-stations), and the music being all about sluts and drugs doesn't help either.

Turned out it was some C4 in a toy car, I'm guessing they stole that idea from the CHERUB series.

A friend of mine got transferred a few years back because he made a bomb threat. He got caught by showing it to a kid in his locker. The kid told on him.

After a few hours of waiting, it turned out the "bomb" was just a few firecrackers in a lunch box.

Bottlecap Mine maybe?

One of my friends, who I had known since preschool, was involved in a senior prank that involved smoke bombs. They were arrested on all sorts of charges and facing "up to 20 years" in jail for "attempting to light an pyrotechnic device". When the press died down, they plead guilty and wound up with substantial fines and large amounts of community service.

I really never would've guessed my one time friend of doing something so stupid. He's really really book smart. Perfect score on his math SATs, while on bail during the trial he graduated valedictorian from one a prestigious private university. It's just amazing the impact one stupid moment can have on someone's life.

i hate pop culture for the same reasons. and the no child left behind program at my old high school has distracted the teachers from the students willing to learn for the idiots who do everything no to go.

Nope. There was a lockdown for half of the next school day and he wasn't arrested until then.

Apparently, he wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. This is quite ridiculous for anyone to think to do this just for chuckles and giggles. Now, to get out of taking a test, I can see.

If I may add my two cents-

Having gone to one of the schools in Florida in which a student was arrested (a week or so ago)for having bomb "materials" assembled in his locker, it should be noted that the school had received numerous prank bomb threats in the past. But in this instance, they acted on an actual threat that could happen just about anywhere.

You can blame schools, bullying, society ect., but that doesn't really excuse the fact that most of these people are rather self centered and lash out against "the world" because they feel alienated and need attention/notoriety. "Lonewolf" killers are not going to disappear any time soon,no matter how many additional regulations and changes are made to the public school system.

The only thing that can be done is to have students, teachers and PARENTS use a little common sense and be mindful.

Bomb threats are ALWAYS taken seriously, because all it takes in "one silly little bomb threat" that levels a bulding full of students and school employees, then everyone goes into 9/11 mode... demanding greater security and an explaination as to why people didn't take the intial threat/events seriously (or why their kid or loved one is dead).

People who make false....... check that, those who make any type of bomb threat, should be in prison.

You people that think it's cute to make a false statement like "There is a bomb....." deserve all the hate, lawsuits, paranoia, harassment, and any other thing that may be considered a bad thing, happen to you.

If you think it's ok to do these types of things..... don't reply to me, don't post with your real name, don't have any way to post anything that leads back to you.

Damn kids now a days, I wish they had a mute button on a collar or something. That would make life better.
people with this much rage scare me.

you also have to get he is a dumb 16 year old and probably will do completely fine if given another chance after a throw scare.

I wonder if your close friend just had a bad day. Does he have unexplainable scars on his face? Does he keep offering to tell you how he got them? Is the story different every time he tells it? Do you know what he usually carries in his pockets?
I heartily enjoyed how he completely missed the reference.

I know a lot of people who have done it, but I'm a very special case in that I worked in the Monitor Room of a world class casino.

After the 9/11 attacks with all the terror alerts security was being given "special training" for dealing with terrorism, nothing I consider super-special, but we got certificates from Homeland security and so on.

At any rate a whole bunch of morons from various departments all got this idea that they would go for attention/commendations/etc... by faking a bomb. What they would do is pretty much put something out that fit the "suspicious item" criteria to a tee, and then report it as a potential bomb. Security would of course then come in, clear patrons out of the area, secure the area, and basically be a nuisance until the State Police called in an EOD unit to check it out. Of course given how wired the place it was these guys were inevitably caught placing the object themselves and then coming back to it on camera footage leading to firings. This includes at least one security officer who of all people should have known better.

While "popular" for a while it died out given the results it met with, but still, as I've said, I've dealt with a number of these guys. Actually knew a few of them fairly well having worked in the same place with them.

I guess it's not exactly the same thing as calling in "hey there's a bomb" from a payphone, but similar.

We had a couple of bomb threats when I was in high school. Although everyone was just like, "meh." in each situtation including me. No one really cared. (or at least no student cared)

Once in eighth grade I had a teacher tell everyone in the class that I would become a serial killer. It was totally uncalled for and I wasn't even talking or doing anything except staring out the window. I just looked at him and without a hint of emotion said, "You're first."
