I love to read. I'm a pretty slow reader though - it usually takes a couple of weeks for me to read an average 400-500 page book. It probably has to do with the way that I imagine the scenes in my mind like a movie (and that lately I only read on my breaks at work - whenever I'm home, I'm on the Escapist >_>), so I have to read pretty slowly to really process all the information.

I usually read sci-fi or fantasy - some of my favorite authors are Neil Gaiman, George R.R. Martin, H.P. Lovecraft, Joe Hill, and Iain M. Banks. Although I would like to branch out more into just general fiction. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen was the last non-sci-fi/fantasy book I read, it was excellent.

I'm into scifi fantasy, but I've fallen out of love with things like DragonLance, Forgotten Realms, World of Warcraft, Star Wars, The Sword of Truth Novels, and I liked battletech until they hit the "Dark Age"

What I've been reading is generally Adult low fantasy novels. and by Adult I don't mean porn in a book form. Glenn Cook and George R.R. Martin are the two biggest writers in the field (even if nobody ever heard of Cook). Generally the stories have characters that sleep with camp followers, and do other somewhat dastardly deeds. Black Company has probably the DARKEST scene I've ever seen in a book. I don't think people will object to it but I still don't want to toe the line of posting rules.

you go man! finally someone whos heard of Cook and the Black Company, if you like him read Steven Brust and his Vlad Taltos novels you'll be hooked

I'm actually reading through his Dread Empire novels. Got the main series down (dealing with Varthlokkur and Kevalin fighting off Shinsan), and am working through the two novels about the El Murid wars.

Does Jack read books? Absolutely. It kinda' goes with the territory of being a writer. And in the categories of the reading AND the writing, I prefer sci-fi and fantasy. To me, a writer is a clever entertainer, and these genres possess the highest entertainment value. Plus, making up stuff is fun.

Anything, aside from woman-books (Bridget Jones diary, etc). Currently reading a rather excellent account of the battle for Anzio, by Carlo D'Este. God, but Clark was a bad general.


Fiction....I go through most fiction so fast that a book is a one-to-two day experience.
