Had a small upper palate, overcrowding in my uppers, and a few of my upper teeth would occasionally snag on my lowers while chewing in a most painful fashion. Had this crazy device with a screw installed across the roof of my mouth to slowly widen my upper jaw. Turned it once a day, could actually FEEL my palate getting bigger. Crazy. Did the whole braces thing. A crazy installation routine of rubber bands every day. Was plugging upwards of six of those little bastards into ridiculous patterns on those hooks on each side every day for MONTHS!
Worst three years of my life, in some respects. The constant pulling, tugging, pressure, the constant maintenance of snapped bands, the hamburger that was the inside of my cheeks from catching on the metal installations almost constantly... But the payoff? Damn. Well worth it. I got a killer grill now. Looks gorgeous. No more of those painful tooth collisions. The simple act of eating went from an exercise in concentration to not almost kill another tooth to something I could just...do. Win, I say.
