First of, yes I'm aware there have probably been similar threads, but my computer refuses to load past half way down the page on some pages (convenient I know), so from my limited search I found no results.

So anyway, I digress, lets get onto the point, without further ado, its always been something I have pondered, should I buy a 360? I already own a PS3, but seeing as most of my friends and family have 360s I have been thinking about it more and more. If I did buy one, I would probably only buy exclusives on my PS3 (with some exceptions).

I have looked through some potential places to buy them (namely Game, HMV and Amazon (not a fan of eBay), I'm aware some people won't have heard of these places, seeing as I don't think there are any Game store in the US) and the most expensive (Elites) seem to be at £250 tops. Which financially isn't a problem, as I just had a birthday so I have some spending money.

But I was also wondering if anyone could recommend any other retailers (UK based (or at least European based)) where I can get a good price and a decent warranty. Which brings me onto my worries about RRODing, I've heard the newer models have had the RROD problem significantly reduced (but I'm not sure if its true).

So basically I'm asking, should I buy a 360? Can you recommend me a good retailer? And what model should I buy? Hopefully with all of you random strangers who I have never met, (and probably never will) help I can make a decision.

I would recommend getting an elite for the extra hard drive space. What with the full games you can download off of Live now.

I have a Pro back from launch, and I can say that 20 GB is not nearly enough space. I'm down to about 7 now.

EDIT: I own a PS3 and a 360 and I find my 360 to be much more enjoyable. You should definitely buy one.

As a current PC gamer, I would recommend just upgrading your computer. The oldest video game console is still the best in my opinion. Still the nagging 360 gamer in the back of my head and history says that you should wait a while and get the Elite version of the 360. There are apparently being price cuts, and it is a good system. I just can't justify you buying it if you already have a PS3, though. Most of the new exclusives are coming out on the PS3 at the moment, and you'll have to pay an additional $80 per year if you want to play on the Internet. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't gotten a 360, but you may feel differently.

If you have an HD TV and plan on making the most use out of your 360, go ahead and get the elite. It's less money you have to spend later on upgrading your Pro and especialy Arcade.

I own a Wii that I turn on once every other month to play Mario Kart, a 360 Pro that I play muti-player with my roomate's 360 elite, and a PS3 that gets the good majority of my attention when not on PC (even sometimes when I am.)

As for retailers, the price difference on new consoles is usualy less than a dollar, but if you look on-line you can generaly find bundles of free games or accesories. Just check them all out, Walmart.com, Bestbuy.com, Target.com, etc...

If you want one in-store and plan on buying an extended warranty (which is nice since 360s tend to epic fail), Walmart has the best replacement program and is a lot cheaper.

Difference is, PS3 online is complete and utter shit. You get what you pay for, I suppose.

I have a pro, dude 20 is not enough. Im going to have to swap out for a new HD soon.

Go elite, It may be expensive, but if you run out of room with a pro and buy a new HD, than the elite would have been cheaper.

No. Get a gaming PC. They're admittedly more expensive, but most games that are worth getting for the 360 have a decent or sometimes better PC version, and the ones that don't usually have a PS3 version. Plus, Xbox Live is a scam--it's not worth the money you spend monthly, considering the dregs of society you have to play with most of the time. The 360 has its merits (relatively low price point, large selection of games), but in all honesty, I'd go for a PC if you want a platform other than your PS3.

If I were you I would buy an Elite, because it is the only Xbox with a place for an HDMI Cable so you can get the full HD experience. Even if you do not have a 1080p TV at the moment you may get one some day so its best to be prepared. Also the Elite has more storage space for games and DLC which you will be grateful for eventually.

There really isn't much point to buying a 360 if you already have a PS3. Multiplatform titles are what's good most of the time, and to be honest, the 360's exclusives are quite lacking. Apart from getting a better multiplayer experience (Halo, Call of Duty, Left 4 Dead, etc), you're just going to be throwing money down the drain.

I've actually had a much better experience on PSN, it works smoothly, hasn't glitched on me, less morons with headsets, overall its pretty great. XBL.....ehhh. XBL has messed up on me so many times now I can't even count, it will refuse to let me join a friends party, not let him join mine, kill our headsets at arbitrary points, die altogether and kick me from a game, refusing to download items; overall XBL is alright, but if it weren't for my friends, I would never pay for it.

It is. I don't know how they get away with that. They could get away with PS2 online being scattered around and shitty because it was a new thing, sort of an experiment.

But the PS3 online is just emberassing, even the Nintendo Wifi Connection is more stable.
Your post, makes my head hurt. PS3 online is pretty damn good especially for being free, the only important feature it lacks that XBL has is the party system, other than that, it works about as well as Xbox, plus its free.

I wouldn't bother, I own a PS3 and a 360 and my 360 only gets turned on when I want to return to Mass Effect, the other 360 exclusives aren't really worth your time tbh.

What on Earth are you talking about? I've found PSN to be a lot faster and sturdier than Xbox Live, have you actually used it for any length of time or have you just been told this?

If you like the games offered on the 360, get one. If you're planning on installing a lot of games on your HDD (the 360 can be quite noisy), get an Elite. If not, get a Pro.

If you are going to get one, go for the middle one. Enough room for a few games and cheaper than the pro one. I think it's being dropped out soon because they're bringing down the pro price so you may want to wait.
My overall advice is to wait. With the PS3 price drop coming there will be a lot more people with PS3s if you're worried about online play, and since the PS3 online play is free I'd stay put for a month or two.

Wait for the price drop that is coming soon and buy an Elite. They are phasing out the Pro and dropping the Elite to Pro price.

Semi-hijack of the thread (apologies to the OP, I hope you don't mind as it's extremely related, and if I created my own topic I'd be told "use the search button"):

I only (ha, only - I realise I was quite lucky) own a PS2 and an Xbox, and I'm fed up of not being able to get any decent new games - and the Xbox is old and getting incredibly noisy - I think it's going to die soon. Thus I'm looking at getting a 360 (as I've heard the PS3 can't play PS2 games, so I'll get more utility out of a 360 and PS2 than out of a PS3 and Xbox)

What's this about a drop in price, when's it likely to happen (as I wnat pre-order Halo3:ODST but with a console at the same time)? Is the difference in hard-drive space and the HDMI cable the only difference between the types of 360? Sorry, but with such old consoles I'm not up to date with having *different variations* of the same thing.
