It's the end of high quality cartoons. For kids, anyway. Poor little buggers. The stuff they have today is so poorly made, and really talks down to it's audience. We all know kids aren't the smartest bunch, but come on... Cartoons aren't supposed to throw it in their face like that.

Yeah, maybe the end for the kids. But a decent portion of my DVR recording is stuff from Adult Swim, or otherwise on Comedy Central. But for the old school stuff like G.I. Joe and Gargoyles? Yeah, I haven't seen stuff like that for kids in a long time.

Modern cartoons are shit.

I pity the children of today who only have shit like Spongebob to watch & no classics like Count Duckula, Wacky Racers, He-Man or Thundercats.

I know you could argue that I shouldn't think modern cartoons are good, since they're made for children & shouldn't appeal to an adult, but they're still shit.

I am just glad that children's cartoons are starting to get over that whole "IF THIS DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANIME (even though it clearly isn't) NOBODY WILL WATCH IT" stchik.

I said that we were starting to get over it. It's not as bad as it once was; still kinda bad.

If only Pokémon and Dragonball Z and their innumerable cohorts had known what they were condemning us to.

Wait, did somebody actually defend Wacky Racers? That show had no decent humor and followed a set pattern more religiously than filler Pokemon episodes.

Oh c'mon, The Slag Brothers and Penelope Pitstop having a vibrator in her car?

I don't remember that second part. Probably censored out of the Boomerang version of the show if I tried to watch it anyway.

Spongebob is the most awesomest cartoon ever. If I could marry Spongebob, I totally would.
I will back up this most Necro of swansons on this.
Spongebob is about as close to good as modern cartoons are going to get.
Even then, the new spongebob episodes are all rather disapointing, probably due to the creator, Steven Hillenberg, leaving.

But I still remember the good ol' cartoons (though wacky racers was a little before my time.)

Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly dog, the old episodes of Rugrats and Angry Beavers aren't on anymore where I live, but by god would still I watch them if they were.

Hell yes. Angry Beavers was great. I Am Weasel wasn't bad, either.

I miss the old BatMan cartoons too, even though sometimes they used to creep me out as a kid. But man, the theme music.. So cool.

the problem isn't necessarily with the quality of the shows. I've watched some of them, and they're actually half decent.

The problem may in fact be that kids don't need cartoons as much these days.

Back when we were kids, what did we have? Cartoons. If we were lucky, we had a nintendo. If we were REALLY lucky we had a computer too. If we were VERY VERY lucky, we might have had a zippy 28.8 modem in it.

Nowadays, kids are wired out the wazoo. Cell phones, superfast internet (with more and more stuff to actually do on it). pretty much every kid has a super powerful console, even the last gen consoles were vastly superior to anything we had growing up.

Cartoons are just a much smaller part of kids lives today.

You are forgetting Rocko's modern life, Two stupid dogs and Ren and stimpy.
Also cat dog
No I'm not. I never liked those shows. Especially Cat Dog, god I hated Cat Dog...

But now, looking at other people's posts. I also wish to add the old batman cartoons, The Fairly Oddparents and (though this has not been mentioned) The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (and definately also Evil Concarne) Though the last two may not be considered "old cartoons"

Also I watch Southpark, which is weird because I didn't watch it as a kid, somehow I've become more immature as I grow older.
