TV: Generally, much much much worse.
Comics: Worse.

I'm done.

I don't need to go into the degradation of Nickelodeon.
I don't need to go into the degradation of Cartoon Network (specifically Toonami, Cartoon-Cartoons, and Adult Swim (to a lesser extent)).

If I did, this post would be a mile long.
And I think I've complained enough today.

There are classics, yeah. But of the new cartoons out I LOVE Chowder and Flapjack. The art is weird (creepy too in Flapjack) and the plot line is also pretty good. Just all around weird cartoons.

The last newer cartoon (apart from South Park) I liked was Bob Morane.
Other than that I have to say they've become progressively worse.
I blame the anime-influence.
They remind me nothing of anime.
I blame reality TV and the realization that you don't have to work hard to produce something that would sell well.

The style has pretty much changed, is all. Most attempt to mimic Spongebob, the cartoon to end all cartoons, and end up coming out even worse or straying off the path in which they were aiming for.

I have more of a problem with cartoon networks not being "for the kids" anymore. So much live-action and animated teen drama, coming of age bullshit than anything else. CN is probably the best of the Top 3 with limited it as much as possible, but guess what? They're third in ratings.

What happened to networks actively getting involved and doing fun shit at their studios? I miss the game-shows more than anything. You definitely don't see that anymore.

Well, The Simpsons, Family Guy and Southpark have all gone down the drain, but I still think there are lots of good cartoons out there.
family guy went down the drain around the 5th episode, simpsons died when they had a freaking strike, and south park is attempting to cover current issues which makes it more real i could guess (besides the recent alien epi) but meh i've liked trey since baseketball

Remember Reboot? that was the pinnacle of cartoon awesome
Yes, That show was amazing IMO. In how that giant purple square would come down and who ever was in it would be in a game. How cool would it be that would happen now?

There we are, I voted for liking you.

Although I think they're getting worse. Less aimed at teens/adults now.
Because G.I. Joe, Transformers, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Doug, Rugrats, Yogi Bear, Bugs Bunny, etc, etc, were all made for the amusement of adults and teens.

If anything, there are more cartoons for adults. Hell, Adult Swim plays nothing but, and it's not like they're playing the only new adult cartoons in creation.

As do I. Anime is everywhre now.
Honestly I would like a statistic to see just how much of the time the general understands what's going on with it... Somewhere around 13% of the time probably. For me individually, however, I would be surprised if it were 2%.
I miss Ren and Stimpy, that was a good show. Ridiculous, but that's exactly why I liked it.

the content has left quality control and just goes for the easy laughs, no more morale in the cartoons just a bunch of wacky situations and the characters are really really unlike able... well for me at least, OH, and some drawings are just... absurd...

It is because no one wants to spend their time and money on plot any more. All they want is stupid comedy that will catch the kid attention long enough. Most shows in the 90's , maybe early 2000's had some sort of plot. To name a few,

Samaria jack(Awesome show!)- get back to his time and kill Aku.

Zoids(depending on which show) Past one- Defeat the evil empire and bring order to the lands.
future one- win the competition and defeat some evil organization(I forget what they were called.

I could name a few more, if I could remember them.
Samurai Jack was fucking amazing, and I remember getting up before 6 in the morning on school days to watch Zoids.
