PLEASE NO RELIGIOUS DEBATING

OT: I think it's 99% Chance and 1% Destiny. Most of life is based on luck and our decisions but every now and then, an event of destiny comes our way and it's up to us to recognize it and take action or else it could pass us by forever. Now who or what determines these fated events, I haven't the slightest idea. LOL.

EDIT: Fuck it. I'm on a completely one-sided battle here and I can't be here all day so I'm giving up. I still firmly believe in everything I've said here today though.

Chance. I don't like believing that some being controls how the world works.

We live in the era of chance. Destiny is the belief of the great people of the past, who living in times of great violence couldn't foresee any other way of having lived so long and prospered. Which is perhaps why now there are no great people, and the closest to great people of antiquity are now what we would call the insane, believing as they do in their own peculiar form of detiny.

If you saw someone trip up in the street, then travelled back in time to warn them, would they still fall over? If they still did, would that be destiny? What is the dictionary definition of destiny anyway?

Oh i dont know, i have deja vu days where i think ive dreamed what i was doing at that moment, so i guess the Foreseeing of an event means its destiny

or maybe its all just pure chance, but i like to think i have a course i must follow.

97% Murphy's Law, 2% Genetics, and 1% "It was going to happen no matter what".

How about work and effort instead?

Other than genetics, I don't see how "destiny" fits into anything.

Chance? Yes, a big factor, but you still have to grab an opportunity yourself.

You state that like it's a fact but the truth is no one knows for sure.
very true but people often don,t believe what cannot be seen or explained.
question here is...is it rational/ignorant.

Genetics are still 50% chance (2 alleles per parent) and I suppose destiny would dictate who your parents are...

Maybe that IS your destiny, but if it is that's pretty sad. JK.

But as I said, not EVERYTHING has to be predetermined but maybe only a few (and I really mean like 1 or 2) events in our life were meant to happen.

Things in real life aren't determined by chance, we make them happen. There isn't some metaphysical dice rolling going on behind the scenes here.

I don't believe in destiny because it's just a silly concept to me, and free will seems pretty well proven.

but that also means chances are you never get to the point of destiny and simply miss it, like a train.

You choose your paths in life, it's you giving a name to something because you think it's either so great or so bad something else had to do it.

Who's to say that those 1 or 2 destined events can't find you know matter where you are in life?

I believe there's no such thing as destiny. I believe in free will. Things don't happen because they're magically "meant to", they happen because random circumstances lead to the creation of opportunities, which people then either decide to take or not take.
