I was recently playing a game of Spore where I was stuck. So, out of common knowledge I cheated. What I didn't realize was that I got a badge(the equal of an achievement or trophy)for doing so. However, when I cheat on my xbox360 most of the time achievements are disabled. Why is it that my xbox treats cheating like some outlawed thing and gives you a punishment where as my computer doesn't seem to care or even praises me for doing so?

Whats your insight?

You know what I like, when cheating is implemented as a game feature, in GUN you could cheat during poker. But there was no risk of getting caught.

Imagine a western game where you play poker for money, cheat and get caught, having to have a gun fight to settle it.

If its online cheating, its bad.

If its offline cheating, its my game, I payed upwards of fifty dollars for it, and if you don't like my cheating then you can kindly fuck off.

In sandbox games (Prototype/Saints Row 2/Fallout 3/etc) cheating makes things more fun.

I absolutely love cheating in games, it simply enhances the fun for me. I know many people argue it ruins the challenge, but thankfully the cheats can be turned off too. So i get my challenge and my fun time in a game.

personally i dont normally cheat through games even if i get stuck i just feel that it takes away from the exepirance abit because if u get a cheat where your impossible to beat it takes the hole challenge comes out of the game. but i do use after completing so it dosent really effect it like inferent ammo and that just for kicks

but yeah i know what you mean about xbox seem to punish you for using cheats because in gta u cant get the achivement for getting away from the police with 4 stars but i think that if u used cheats to get it then u dont deserve the achivement because your not playing the game how is ment to be. just my opinion

They're called achievements for a reason. If you cheat to get them, it wouldn't be an achievement.

Now back on topic. I enjoy cheating, but only on singleplayer games and the occasional multiplayer. I only cheat on multiplayer if a person pisses me off. If he wants to grief me, I'll grief him right back.

I'm not against cheating in single player, but I like to finish the game first before I use them. Cheating in multiplayer games is not on IMO.

I'm sorry, fallout 3 is more fun when you can launch the MIRV off Tenpenny tower one hundred times.

To each his own. They can cheat if they want so long as it is not online and affects me or gets them anything that could be used for gloating, such as achievements.

Hopefully you knew this ahead of time, but... Though you get a "badge" for cheating, the rest of the "achievements" are disabled (at least on that saved planet). So you're still being punished, you just have to cheat to get the last badge.

As for the topic at hand: I normally don't cheat in videogames, because it does ruin the challenge. It's like skipping to the end of a book for "just a peek". It's just not as fun then. But in, say, SR2, or such, it makes it more fun. I just make sure I never cheat online. Because that does ruin the experience. For everyone.

Of course online cheating sucks. But as others already said I paid 50-60 bucks for it I should be able to do what I want to. That's why I feel PC games aren't dieing off because you can still cheat in most of them using the console commands.

But on a console when you cheat it's stupid to lock acheivement they could just put a caption next to the achievement that says (cheated). Even better just don't disable them because no one at all cares about the achievements. But I think every game should be cheatable because it gives some older games new life and it makes every game beatable for everyone.

Online cheating (Stand-by, bridging host, getting out of maps, mods etc.) should be punishable by death. I honestly don't understand the mentality of "I'm going to cheat and beat you using no skill whatsoever, LOLOLOL".

If it's a single player game offline, then who the hell cares. Cheating makes some games a lot more fun.

It's good to a point...

If your playing a game with an easy difficulty, then it's just sad.

If your playing on hard (or above) then cheating is fine... though most people won't.

Cheating is fine as long as you're not doing it, then expecting praise from people who think you didn't cheat. Though I feel achievements are the bane of modern gaming, taking credit for something you didn't do is laaaaame.
