Mmm. I was going to choose "other" and put in emphysema - a really cheery one, but thinking about it I'll just cop-out and go for "colour blindness".

Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia

Why? Cause I did a report on it.
Well, it's certainly interesting enough by the sound of it...oooh! And it has Phases, too! Sweet.

Out of curiosity what is your chronic disease?

Also for anyone wanting an easy answer; Color blind...

Well, I suppose if you want to really stretch the definition, then life could be considered a chronic condition on its own... :p
...Goddamnit.
That's true. Those afflicted with it have a 100% mortality rate.
And...GASP! It spreads through sex! Holy crap! That conniving bastard of a disease!
The only real STD?
Children.

Zing!

Does OCD count as a "disease", cause I have a minor case of it.
I'd be more inclined to go with its designation of "disorder."
I looked up the definition;
"In human beings, "disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes extreme pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person. In this broader sense, it sometimes includes injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes, infections, isolated symptoms, deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function, while in other contexts and for other purposes these may be considered distinguishable categories."

OCD is a syndrome, and it does cause pain(sometimes), distress and social problems, so I think it can be counted as a disease.
Well, I can go with that. Unfortunately, it'll still have to go under "other," as I can' add any more categories to the poll. Thanks for the information, though.
You're welcome.

AIDS. I don't have sex and I don't have much a future beyond being a cubicle monkey. Makes sense.

Might as well pick the one I have, color-blindness. Although, it shouldn't be considered a "chronic disease", because, well, it doesn't really affect your life at all.
Cpt_Oblivious said:
I'm a haemophiliac, does this count?

If colourblindness is I'm sure this should be. It limits me from doing stuff I want to.
TheEvilDuck said:
Why is color blindness on the same list as cancer and AIDS? Color blindness isn't so much a disease as a genetic condition.

I have heart disease so I picked it. Actually doesn't suck as much as you think, except for the random chest pains. Also have a murmur, a hole in my heart, and some weird thing where my body burns through nutrients too fast so I have to eat an exorbitant amount just so my muscles don't go crazy and super tighten to the point my body ruptures.
Yep it's fun being me :D

colour blindness isnt seeing black and white its when your eyes dont render certain colours (usually green in men) making them look different like green could look yellow..

i do have it...and pinks get me...i dont see pinks i see reds

Life is the only disease that always kills, sooner or later, can't be protected against and strikes everyone.

I'd pick color blindness, but I guess Allergy counts as a chronic disease. Or high blood pressure. Got 'em both.

Only if politicians find some kind of new way to benefit from it.
It's not really usefull lies, more like stupid/perverted replies to every other thing my friends say

Colour blindness- cause it's the only in the list that can't kill you.

Also, why haven't you put AIDS in the poll?

I'm diabetic. Have been since I was 5. And I'll add that real quick.
Type? My Girlfriends dad is diabetic so shes worried she might be, But its easy to cope with Isn't it? Just the ocasional jab of insilin right?
I'm type 1. And if her dad just got diabetes, it's most likely type 2, so while she may get it later in life, right now she's safe(unless she's one of the fat kids on the news...no offense intended). As for type 1, it usually begins before 40. Here's a good site if she keeps worrying: http://www.endocrineweb.com/diabetes/1diabetes.html
Cheers and no she is like a twig, I have to force her to eat. Girls eh?

To tell the truth, my case isn't particularily bad. I'm not permanently bed-ridden like most sufferers, but it sure slammed my education and social life into a grinding halt.

Thanks for making it interesting, guys. Though I can't say I'm surprised that the colorblind pick got first. Still, the smartasses were close. Oh, and sorry about the mass-quotes.
EDIT: Any new posters are still more than welcome.

As a person who lives with one, I'm curious: if you had to, what chronic disease would you choose to go through life with?
By color blindness do you mean seeing in black and white? Because I'm color deficient, which is different than color blindness.
I'd say that's close enough. I realize it's not entirely accurate, but it falls within the general idea of eye problems.
Ah, well besides not being able to be and pilot and having kids give you the wrong color crayons on purpose, I'd say my life is pretty good.

I bet that was an interesting parent/teacher conference. "Maybe all the tea did discolor the water! Who are you to say?

Heriditary Hemmorhagic Telangictasia for me. Because really all it does it cause nosebleeds in children and telangictases in older persons, neither of which are dangerous.

It can occasionally cause strokes through weakened capillary networks but its rare. Its a chronic condition which isn't too bad, so I'll pick that one.

Yea! I mean we had no proof what the tea could have done to the water! If anything I was having an open mind on the subject!

That's an interesting one. Did you have that on tap already, or was that something you looked for first? I'm only asking because that's really freakin' specific! :p

Yes! Your "disability" created a new view on a stale subject! Asking the questions most people thought were answered! They could make a movie!

Thanks. There's probably about 500 diseases out there that would have been better choices but I made my decision, so I'll stick with it.

I've thought of another couple - Oschgood Schlatters disease and Myasthenia Gravis.

Oschgood Schlatters disease is an abnormal bony growth at the top of the tibia which can cause knee pain and restrict joint movement, but mostly it does nothing.

Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease where autoantibodies are directed against Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on muscle tissue, causing muscle weakness. It is easily treatable with steroids and usually causes no real ill effects.
