I prefer Coke to Pepsi and prefer Regular to Diet.

And yes I can (obviously as I answered the question) tell the difference between them.

Both are putrid vats of toxic mess

When there is nothing else to drink I will drink them and there is no difference

It's hard to notice the difference when it's just one or the other. However, if I can compare them side by side, without knowing in advance, I can always tell which is which. Pepsi tastes a bit sweeter to me which is why I prefer Coke.

I have to vote option 6 because you have not provided any love for Coke Zero or Pepsi Max. Shame on you. :p

But to be on-topic, there is most definitely a difference in taste between the two products. It is most notable between regular Coke and Pepsi Max, but the two regular products do taste different and even have a different texture in the mouth. The fact I can tell this difference is probably indicative of how much I drink the stuff. Which may be worrying.

I find Coke to be rougher in the mouth, more "sticky" (possibly due to the sugar content), and perhaps more stodgy? I dunno, difficult to describe. Pepsi Max, on the other hand, is smoother, sweeter, and thinner. I'm not great at describing food and drink, so that's the best I can manage, I'm afraid. :3

On a moderately related topic, Pepsi Max is almost king of the soft drinks, only beaten out by Coke Vanilla. I have an especial weakness for the latter.

I'm quite fond of both, but I would say I prefer Pepsi over Coke, Diet Coke over Diet Pepsi, and here's the tie-breaker, cherry coke over cherry pepsi. Coke's less-sweet flavor allows the cherry taste to come in fully. Cherry pepsi tastes like diabetes in a can. Still good, but MAN, it's almost TOO sweet.
Circumstance dictated I had to drink Pepsi Max Cherry for a few days. It was like drinking liquid marzipan. Not entirely unpleasant, but not an experience I wish to repeat with haste.

I like most regular sodas, but Colas are just too acidic for me when they're not diet.

So my hierarchy of colas: Diet Coke>Diet Pepsi>Pepsi>Coke

It's a pity they're no options for Coke-Zero, the more acidic Diet Coke.

You may have missed this from the first page, so here it is again.

I did consider adding Coke Zero because my other cousin's girlfriend specifically mentioned Coke Zero was better than regular diet Coke, but I didn't know the Pepsi equivalent, didn't care enough to look it up, and felt it distracted a bit too much from the point of the poll. You could just say your beverage isn't mentioned as option 6 if you really wanted to contribute.
At this point it's just too late to accurately gauge the love others have for Coke Zero and Pepsi Max since poll results cannot be resubmitted, so adding options for them now is a little silly.

although i drink both, i usually gravitate more towards pepsi and other pepsi products. pepsi is more carbonated to me, whereas coke tastes sweeter. Ive had a friend who came north from georgia and absolutely hated the taste of pepsi though.

Ah the Pepsi Paradox.

Interestingly, or not, you've hit across a strange quirk of marketing and psychology. In blind taste tests where people were asked to rate the two then it turns out that the majority of people actually preferred the taste of Pepsi, however if the test was conducted where the participants could see which of the colas they were consuming then the results showed most people choose the Coke as the better tasting one.

OT

I prefer the taste of Pepsi, Diet drinks taste like arse and are probably the reason for all the evils of the world.

I actually read that article about Pepsi and Coke shortly after making the poll. Small world, eh?

both diet and non diet Coke has a harsher carbonation (which I prefer), and is less sweet than pepsi (which I also prefer). To that end I prefer the diet version of either as they have an almost salty flavor, which when combined with the harder fizz of coke is pretty much perfect for me.

For the cherry variant:

while I do agree with this sentiment entirely, the wild cherry pepsi seems to have so much of the cherry flavor to brute force the taste at you that I do really like that one, though if coke put out a triple cherry (diet/zero) coke I think that'd be pretty much my ideal soda.

Mexican Coke is the best

It doesn't taste like sludge and feels good in your mouth

While I am not a fan of soda in general, I can definitely tell the difference between coca-cola and Pepsi. As for diet soda, I just find them pointless, they don't really taste of anything. Then again, I don't really drink soda so I don't have a favourite, I much prefer having a cup of tea or coffee.

Were you born without taste buds? I really have trouble believing you OP!

Pepsi tastes good for about 1 second and is the cheaper tasting product. Coke tastes good for about 5 seconds and gives tooth rot.

I like coke, but I never buy it, if I wasn't self-conscious at all, or it wasn't terrible for your health I would drink it a fair bit. favourite pop would be Ginger beers, the ones with chunks of ginger inside.

Basically the same thing to me. I think someone already mentioned the Pepsi paradox. But I get Pepsi because my brother gets bad acne if he drinks Coke. That said I love Coke in a bottle.

I'm mildly alarmed about your tastebuds, OP.

I find that Pepsi is too sweet, whereas Coke can seem to just hit the spot, almost like a beer, but not really. Yeah, Coke is closer to root beer, and Pepsi is closer to 7up. Which makes sense in my mind.

Come on, they taste nothing alike. Well, i have heard that they differ from country to country very much (For example the water to mix it is always regional)

1. I can definitely taste the difference between Coke and Pepsi. Coke has a bit of a bolder flavor, but Pepsi has a much more sugary flavor to it. I find that if I'm in a situation where I can drink them ice cold, I prefer Coke. But if I'm in a situation where I'm stuck drinking a warm soda, I'd rather have the Pepsi. For some reason warm Coke has always tasted nasty to me. I think Pepsi is also the one with the better taste if you're stuck drinking it after it's gone flat, too.

I thought I'd quote you chaps for a little discussion value. I cannot taste the difference. I used to think all brown fizzy water was the same stuff with different labels. As far as my mouth is concerned Coke and Pepsi, and their respective diet versions, are all the same thing. If I ever buy cola I buy the large bottle of cheap replica for 17p because it tastes just like a £5 bottle of coke.

Fijiman said:
I personally prefer Dr. Pepper over both of them. I have no preference for one over the other though. However, the diet version of any soda can go fuck itself in the deepest reaches of hell.
I agree about Dr Pepper. I have also noticed that diet colas seem to have slightly more of an aftertaste.
