Depends on the game and wether I feel it'd be a worthy.

I have to admit, in terms of games, the only one I've bought is the one for nev Vegas (I have the 1540'th out of 3400, according to the sicker on the front) I'm actually pretty impressed with the content, I expected some cheap ass plastic items but everything had weight to it and had really good quality feel to them.

As for future ones... If it has worthwhile content and I have the money, then most likely I'll get it if I'm a fan of the games.

Suprisingly I've been quite pessimistic about new vegas but I still went ahead and got the collectors edition. xD

mixed views for me, it totally depends on the game, and how much I will play it.

funny story. i wanted to buy CoD:MW2 on ebay and didnt care what edition i got, just the cheapest one. I got the Prestige Edition for CHEAPER than the cheapest regualar edition! why? i have theory. no one fucking cares about an extra art book and a metal case, so the demand was so low, no one bid as high on it as they did for the regular. To this day, the only collector's edition i have ever gotten.

Depends on how hyped I am for the game prior to it's release, and what's promised in the collector's edition. Even if the collector's edition inspires little more than a 'meh', I might get it because I love the franchise.

I have bought a few collector's editions and it's mostly depends on the game or some I planned to get the normal long after a release and still have the collector's version for the same price or maybe 10 dollars more like when I got Fallout 3 so get it that way but honestly I rarely get the CE of games.Just got maybe Fallout 3, Saint's Row 2, God of War 3 and now Fable 3

I've never bought a collector's edition of a game. And I don't think I've bought a collector's edition of anything else for that matter. I'm just not that interested in the various nicknacks that come with them.

Depends on the content I'm getting with it. Some games just give you a few in-game extras, so I avoid them. Anyone remember how Empire: Total War was given extra units that were released later for dirt cheap as DLC?

Now, others are worth it, in my opinion. I bought the Collectors for both Burning Crusade and Warhammer Online. The art books more than made up for it.

I never buy collectors editions and people who actively pine for them totally rub me the wrong way. "Ooh, I have a metal case to store my plastic, dime-a-dozen CDs in"; "Ooh I have book of artwork by the design team that doesn't actually look like the environments I'm playing in anyway" (WoW anyone? Concepts barely resemble the final developed product. It's like incest after six generations.) "It only cost another sixty bucks." Jesus. Are you really going to ever use those things? You're going to sit in your back yard one day, smoking a cigar with a nice Sancerre, flipping through a game's art book? Really?

Unless the Asylum team gives me a real fucking Batarang or the Fallout team lets me mail in for a Rock-it launcher, collectors editions can shove it.

For me it depends heavily on wich game it is and what the collectors edition[CE] includes.
If the CE only contains a small artbook or weapon/skin in game then I will just get the regular version. What really gets me sold on CE are:
- Action figures.
- Maps (preferably made out of cloth).
- In game quests and story arcs.
- Posters.
This, it depends on the cool stuff that comes with it, New Vegas has a lot of cool stuff so I got it, Black ops (hardened) has extra maps. It also depends on the game, if its a series I am a huge fan of it really doesn't matter I will get the CE edition when I preorder.

I prefer to get the regular edition of everything and spend the price difference on more games. I collect games, not game related memorabilia.

I like goodies, like action figures, comics, art books, or music CD's. That's why I bought SCII's CE, because it also came with the first 2 games for free in a super neat USB Drive. <3
Well, that one makes sense to me because you get other games as well as memorabilia. So if the collectors edition comes with extra games or significant DLC I would consider it.

I'm a sucker for special-edition. Don't know why, I just am. However if I'm broke, I'll just get the regular edition. And if that's the case, it's a good thing to pre-order. Most games these days have pre-order extras that don't cost more money.

I already have way too much stuff. I'll take the normal edition, and in all honesty I prefer my games digital. I'm very good about my backups.

Yes, I would sit on my ass all day, with a drink and a smoke, and flip through my WoW artbook. I've done it multiple times. I don't care that it doesn't look exactly like in the game, it's a concept. The people drawing them are not the people implementing them into the game, they're just coming up with a vision of it, and that vision is gorgeous.

I don't even still play WoW or Warhammer, yet I continue to thumb through both artbooks. They're high quality stuff. They're on my shelf right now.

You know, I can respect that. If you are actually doing what I described - reading through and appreciating the art - that's what it's there for. My point is that it's:

(a) too expensive for a little book of concepts (that you could effectively view the same kind of quality and diversity on something like DeviantArt)

and

(b) MOST people just let the CE sit and rot on a shelf. They may flip through the art book or dick around with the cheap-o HALO helmet for a day or two, but it's ultimately a waste of money as those two days are over pretty quick and now they're just playing the game.

The majority of people of whom I am familiar fall into the "b" category, and when I press them on the matter, they can't come up with any good reason on forking over the thirty or forty extra bones; it seems they do it "just cause", but they make such a big deal about it and yet have absolutely no reason for it. That is what I find annoying and deserving of scrutiny and ridicule.

Now, like I said, if I got a real, metal, seeking Batarang that I could flick at morons driving 10 mph under the speed limit, or dumbasses deciding to cut me off and then slow way the fuck down for no apparent reason, I'd be right there. Hell, I'd buy 20 collectors editions if that were the case.
