Poll: Colour or Color?

How about just asking "Are you from USA or UK/Canada/Australia?".

And besides, there are plenty other words that employ the same sort of differences in different English dialects.
Anyway, I've always tried to pursue using British English, so I type "colour". I think it's odd without the 'U'.

Though my uncle (whenever he speaks English) likes to say Charizard.

Colour, I don?t think it really makes much deferens but I will say the u isn?t just a useless letter. It really just depends on how you pronounce it. As far as I can tell with a lot of English ascents, you do hear the u.

Canadian, so it's colour. The problem is I do some web coding every now and then(html, php,CSS) and every colour attribute in all of those is spelled the American way (color). It's really messing with my spelling.

I did see the unnecessary replies to that comment, as I said simply accepting I am a liberal (which I am) should end the comments right there. I am a liberal, therefore you are saying to me it is colour. So cool, thanks.

I really don't care either way, though I tend to lead towards "colour". Why? because I'm Canadian, teachers say one thing and MS word spell-check says another. Hell, even right now it's attempting to correct it... whatever

I mean, come on! The 'u' in 'colour' is silent anyway. If 'colour' was pronounced 'col-ur' instead of 'col-or' then you might have a point. Either that or this debate would be whether or not the spelling should be 'colour' or 'colur'.

Hell, even Firefox's spell-checker disagrees with you; every instance of 'colour' I have in the reply editor is marked as a spelling error. I guess that's because I got the American English version instead of the British or Australian English version, but still.

It IS pronounced "Col-ur". So your statement is voidish.

Technically, we're both wrong. It's pronounced /ˈkə-lər/ (from www.m-w.com) with a schwa sound, which, as you probably know, is sort of an in-between vowel sound that shows up in a lot of places in English.

When I see, 'colour', or 'col-ur', I seem to think it would be pronounced like 'col-lure' (sounding something like the word, 'allure'). I suppose a closer spelling would be 'col-er', but I still think 'col-or' is closer to the actual pronunciation than 'col-ur', since the 'u' in 'colour' is silent anyway.
