I've never been online with my consoles and doubt that I ever will. Even if I did begin going online with my consoles, I still wouldn't play an MMO on them. My MMO days died out along with Ultima Online.

PSO was pretty great. If they make another PSO like game maybe.
They did, Phantasy Star Universe but overall was never as good as PSO. Luckily Phantasy Star Portable 2 will have fully funcitonal online play with pvp and stuff, DLC, and events.
Yeah that sounds terrible and even less like PSO then PSU does.
Portable 2 is in the PSU universe but has more similarites to PSO to the point which is has most of PSO's levels in the game. Played the demo for it (japanese demo...) and it was alot of fun.

For whatever reason I'm against the idea of paying for console multiplayer so only if it's free.

From what you described it doesn't sound like PSO. Plus PVP sounds terrible in a Phantasy star MMO.
PVP was in PSO... 0.0 Used to play it with my friends all of the time.

Absolutely. I would actually prefer it.

Believe it or not, some people like their consoles more than their PC's.

I played PSU, and it worked fine, just lack of content, but it shows MMOs can work on consoles. FFXI I tried...but it failed. Why? PlayOnline Viewer, but that was Square's fault. That thing was unneccesary and completly stupid and wasteful. RIP eternally lost GB's.

yes and no i want one where i can switch between keyboard and controller and not have to use 10 keys for my skills sort of like having the d-pad and the A-pad binded together for attacks or something .

Probably not. I am content with Perfect World and World of Warcraft (I need a prepaid credit
card...so I can somehow secretly purchase the game without my biased dad finding out).

God no. I tried FFXI for the X360 back when it was in beta and it was awful. Communication was such a chore. Everything felt clumsy - never again.
One developer did a bad, so therefore all of them will, ever, no matter what type of game they try and make into a MMORPG.
Your grammar is very convoluted. But to me, pretty much. I tried it, i have the benefit of hindsight, i know from experience the concept doesn't work. People who don't and say "have an open mind, they can't all be bad" have no experience with which to back that up. Console MMORPGs aren't something that interest me terribly so i don't care enough to have an open mind. I tried it, i hated it, i'm not bothered to try again - end of. I don't care about other people's opinions and i'm not going to force myself to 'have an open mind'.
Yeah, I don't even know how I fucked up my post that badly. I guess I just find it pigheaded and stupid to write off a genre from one bad experience. If that was the case, I'm guessing you wouldn't play video games at all.

It depends on how the Console MMO in question would be structured. If it was for example WoW, Aion or whatever ported to a console I simply wouldn't play it. The game has to be built to work around the controller rather than having to use a keyboard because otherwise I'd just play it on the PC.

With some MMOs planning to release on consles I want to know the escapists opinion.
Personly I think they are a great idea as it's going to make MMOs more fast paced fixing one of their major drawbacks. I am seriosly hyped about DC universe online and have been scince it was anounced.
You should add an option for if they add keyboard and mouse compatibility as all MMO really need the full keyboard to function.

No I probably will never ever play a MMO on a console as most if not all MMOs require a mouse and keyboard to function right. Since consoles have neither I won't be playing on it. Also I don't like the idea for paying for any online service although I can see the need for thigns like WoW I just don't want to do it for 1 let alone 2 subs. Even if I had internet access with my xbox I still would not get XBL.

Fuck no. I don't understand why console don't start supporting keyboard/mouse. Most run on USB anyway, it would open up a whole market for them.

If there was no monthly fee then yes. I was quite disappointed to hear that the 360 version of Champions Online got cancelled because it was a more action-y MMO, which was a nice change of pace.

Doubtful. Most traditional MMO's (EQ, WoW, and so on) won't function well with the limitations of just using a controller with it's limited number of buttons. While most FPSMMORPG's, like Planetside, I play better at FPS's by using a mouse and keyboard.

So, simply put...probably not.
First off, I love that you mentioned planetside, im a DIE HARD planetside fan. I absolutly LOVE it and really hope that planetside 2 goes as planned.

That being said, If they make use of the little text pad thing for the 360, then I would welcome a MMO on xbox. As much as I love mmo's and as much as I love WOW. I hate sitting in my computer chair with a mouse and keyboard all the time. even hooking my computer to the tv I still have the bane of a keyboard across my lap and finding something to use my mouse on sucks as well. so I would welcome it if they utilized the chat pad and integrated more of the functions into the controller. really, with wow, it can be done, there's not may abilities you really use when it comes to playing your class. the only problem I see with it is healing. That would be a lot of work to try and get good at with a controller.

if they remove the monthly payment, yes, and if they also make it fast past action and remove random drop from kill monster x get item y most defiantly and if they also have the weapon creation system of borderlands and creative spells I'll line up on the night it's released if they make 10 or more unique and fun classes that are balanced and creative quests and amazing bosses I am either in heaven or I have found the greatest game ever.

I would try them but doubt that they would be better than the PC mmo. Main reason would be the communication via typing. If they made a competant type style chat system then it could work.

Well, you know, technically there are already MMO's on consoles.

Well, sort of. MAG could be considered an MMO by some.

Point is, if you want MMO's for consoles, you'll have to do something else than what PC's do. Like just making larger multiplayer features. Red Dead Redemption was probably on to something like that with it's free-roam system. Though I believe that it had the problem of having a map that was too big, a world that felt too empty, and not enough players.

Maybe try a sort of GTA-esque MMO.

There will be fallout online so hopefully it will have FPS elements in it and not just randomly clicking powers and then waiting for them to recharge.

It would have to be without a subscription fee, like Guild Wars. There's no way I'll ever try a subscription based MMO.
