I'm good with keyboard and mouse although a pad would sure come in handy for emulators and flight sims.

Isn't using a controller basically turning your computer into a console?

Yes, I absolutely despise using a mouse and keyboard. Mouse and a few hotkeys or just a keyboard, not both. I particularly hate WASD movement in 3D environments (when movement actually counts for something that is, WASD is fine in KotOR). Not to mention the uncanny accuracy that a mouse allows in shooters, that simply isn't right.

No because controllers can't give the smooth action of a mouse, its basically taking away the one advantage of playing an fps on a computer.

I only use my controler for a few very specific games like jade empire and the like, mostly games ported from a console to the pc.

May I ask what is so bad about WASD? I mean REALLY, it's about the simplest navigation method. Also Increased precision with a mouse "isn't right"? Does not compute, such logic baffles me. Yes i am a PC enthusiast, but these kinds of justifications just seem...odd and don't make much sense to my little brain.

Well I don't have a game pad I can use... unless I could hook up my GC controller, easily the best in my opinion, probably wouldn't play a shooter though

Mostly because prolonged WASD use hurts my hand, but it's also a far inferior method than joysticks.

It's not that a mouse being precise isn't right, it's guns being shot with mouse precision that isn't right.

Its just you. I've used the keyboard WASD for many hours on end and never got a cramp in my hand. Ever. Also... "it's guns being shot with mouse precision that isn't right."

... What? So your saying that the mouse precision is to good compared to the console controls that it's bad? And not the other way around? Thats a laugh.

I didn't say good, I said it isn't right. A gun cannot be fired that accurately.

You also can't do a lot of other stuff in real life that you can do while playing on a computer... It's just a game.

I'm not an obnoxious purist of any sort, so I just use whatever I am in the mood for using. Sometimes that means keyboard and sometimes it means my PS3 controller.

I would, because for some games the keyboard layout is to annoying, especially when the game is designed for use with controller or a small number of buttons.

But your arms aren't as clumsy as a controller's sticks make them out to be either.

A lot of games simulate that natural lack of absolute accuracy by increasing the size of the reticle for a larger field in which the bullet can hit its target.

Since my skills with Keyboard and Mouse is the equivelent of a blind guy trying to drive, I would have to use a 360 pad just to play, say, TF2.

I think controllers are great for console ports like GTA4 and hack and slash games.

Hearing about using the Wii-mote for FPS on the pc is interesting though.
