Generally, Gaming-quality PCs are more powerful than consoles; however, console games are optimized specifically for a certain console, whereas PC games ahve to work across a wide range of hardware - saying "x graphics > y graphics" is pretty stupid in and of itself because, well, an XBox 360 is an XBox 360, but a PC can be a netbook, an average Joe's desktop, or a multi-thousand dollar god-in-a-box. Games like GTAIV work better on consoles simply because they were terribly optimized for the PC; similarly, the Orange Box wasn't very well done for the PS3 so the PC version tends to work a little better.

I've never played a console RTS, so I'll withhold judgment. Especially since I'm more of a PC gamer than a console gamer so I'll probably have a biased opinion anyway.

That was my reaction too up until reading the part where he says consoles have better graphics than PC's. I am starting to think that he may be a troll, because nobody in their right mind would dispute that PC's have superior CONTROLS, especially when it comes to a genre such as RTS.
I fix't that for you.

It depends on the PC. I have a laptop and the graphics are terrible, and I would agree that when playing games on my laptop the graphics are really bad, while they're brilliant on my Xbox 360. However, when playing games on my PC at home (i.e. the family PC), then the graphics are really good and are superior to consoles. I've experienced this so I should know. So there's no evidence at all to suggest that the OP is a troll, especially given he actually has a lot of posts and I've only ever seen the OP post valid points on this site up to now.

I usually say one version is just as good as the other (I still believe that with any shooter), but even I have to admit that consoles just don't have enough buttons to allow effective control of RTS units. On a posistive note, fighting games are way better on consoles so it evens out.

Anyway, back on topic. I played Halo Wars and it's one of my favourite RTSs, I feel that Halo Wars is a prime example of a console RTS done right. The controls work pretty well and they definitely fit the genre. However, I started playing PC RTSs with Total Annihilation years ago, and after AoE, DoW and Total War, I still much prefer the PC RTS. I have no doubt that console RTSs can be done well, Halo Wars and Red Alert 3 (apparently, I've seen it but never played it) are proof of this. It just depends on the developer and how exactly they can make the transition from PC based to Console based.
Hey, are you that guy who made that thread about halo wars a while ago? :)

Haven't played Halo Wars, would like to though but not worth getting a console for.

I can't see how you could manage the amount of things you need to quick enough to play the game well, with a controller. I find it hard enough to keep on top of everything quick enough even after I know all the shortcuts and that with my keyboard. I had a RTS game for PS1 and it was alright, but it wasn't good enough to take me away from RA2 for very long.

I disagree, RTS' have always been more of PC thing than consoles. I just think they work better on the PC.

I'm gonna have to say you're wrong on this one, but by technicalities.

As for controls, thats obviously choice. I prefer click and drag, and the amount of hotkeys available on a keyboard, as well as just how much more fluid a high sensitivity mouse can be.

As for graphics, if you want to compare a console to PC for graphics, compare a console to a PC built for gaming, if even on the lower end, instead of a random PC you install games on but is primarily for internet access and work. In that case, the PC will win most of the time, or come very close if it is on the low end. Not to mention, especially in the RTS area, mods are an amazing thing, that happened to get restricted to PC, removing any value from the console RTS for me.

It just feels better and everything moves faster with a pc rts. I really liked halo wars, but i wouldve enjoyed it more on pc.
but those great graphics wouldn't have been possible on the PC
...
Please explain that power hungry game that shines so brightly in the graphics department called Crysis then.

The PC games look better then the console games IF you have the requirements for such.
Not everyone has enough money to spend on an expensive PC
And not everyone has enough money to buy the consoles.
People seemed to think that a PC that can run the console games just as well if not better, are going to cost very high, but you can get a decent PC running high-end games for about as much as an Xbox 360 cost when it was first released.
Plus, the PC games have mods. Console games don't. I still play console games, I just prefer PC.

Have you ever played any of the Relic RTSes? Because those are all beautiful games with excellent animations, and click and drag isn't needed as much (because infantry always come in squads in those games).
I love those games but my computer is crap so it wont run them for more than 4 minutes
On topic I prefer the computer RTS Because they seem more diverse and deep than the consoles

Most modded versions of warcraft III bored me. It would be expensive for me to buy a pc when I already have an xbox 360.

If you mean the one asking if console RTSs could be as successful as PC RTSs, then yes, I am.

Console controllers just never seem to have enough buttons for everything you need to do. I'm not saying console RTS's are bad, but I've always had better experiences with PC RTS's.

...Am I the only person that sees the irony in a bunch of PC elitists flaming someone being sincere because they don't agree with him, and them calling him the troll?

I haven't really tried console RTSs (I'm more of an RPG guy), but I can see how they'd work. I'm hoping Natal will be used to really bring home console RTSs. It'd be like Minority report, but for warzones! :D

You seem to be missing the point entirely. You're basing the mods on just on game, when I'm considering all games. And it would not have been expensive if you had used the money on your PC instead of buying an Xbox. Mainly, you're only defending the xbox because it seemed simpler, and more game-oriented, so you bought it first.

In fact that's pretty much the only reason this thread exists, is because you bought the Xbox first and are poorly defending it by using really bad opinions because you don't want to admit that you're just being stupid by issuing that statement.

Ya, the hotkeys thing is kinda a cutback. Plus the console cursor moves slower and less accurately than a mouse.

Not every one ahs the money to spend on an expensive console. Though the base units are dirt cheap now, you pay so much more than Pc owner for everything else it soon mounts up to more.
