Poll: Console Selling Game. Will one exist?

To put it bluntly, yes. This is one of the reasons why you see hot new titles you frequently see bundle deals with a console and that game, or even themed/skinned consoles.

Final Fantasy games are a good example, but the same can be said about certain shooters and such. A lot of people seemingly got the Xbox just for Halo.

Is it a wise desician? No. But that really isn't the question.

No, I would not buy a console unless it was a novelty toy like the Wii.

Zelda Twilight Princess really sold the Wii for me. The Wii, PS2 (to replay old classics) and my computer are the only systems really seeing any of my playtime. And yeah the Wii has held my interest since I got it about 6 or 7 months after release.

I get the impression most people calling it a toy or a novelty are not only going to go out and get the motion controllers for their system of choice but never even gave the Wii a chance, and bash it cause it's the in thing to do.


Halo 3 was a seller for 360. Also the long line of PC ports available on the 360 would seem to be an attractive option for people who don't have the cash to lay down for a high end PC but still want to play those games.

People have being doing this for as long as I can remember. The only reason I bought an XBOX360 was because none of my friends have PS3's and I wanted to play online with them so now I just use my PS3 for the more single player games like uncharted 2, final fantasy XIII, bioshock 2 and assassins creed 2. Whereas I use the xbox for modern warfare 2, left 4 dead 2 and gears of war 2.

But every post-KH1 game sucks ass. If anything the new Katamari game and Disgaea 3 would get me to buy the PS3 if I had the money for it.

Halo: Reach has the potential to sell a lot of 360s.

I don't see why not. If you not buying a console for its exclusive titles then why are you buying it?

To me it has to be more than "one" game. I bought XBOX over PS3 because of Mass Effect, and most of its XBLA titles.
If I can afford both one day maybe I will get a ps3 as well.

Besides there will never be one game that EVERYONE just agrees is the game to own and makes people buy a console.

Besides I'm assuming that game already exists, and it's Starcraft 2, and the console is a PC.

Knights of the Old Republic caused me to buy an Xbox, and Mass Effect caused me to buy a 360.

What you're calling is a "Killer App", and it's REQUIRED for a console to be successful.

Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone, Gears of War etc. all sold for their respective consoles.

It also worries me the amount of people coming into a very clearly console marked thread and telling us about how they dislike consoles.

I voted yes, because there are obviously games that will cause some people to buy a console.
Not for me though, I wouldn't consider buying a new console for a single game and if I really want to play a PS3 exclusive I can always borrow my friend's PS3.

From what I've seen of it MAG has (had?) the potential to sell the ps3. I've been waiting for news on the game but I haven't heard anything. Probably because THE PS3 HAS NO GAMES. trolling aside, I really want MAG to be successful. What got me into the original halo was the big teams (along with epic story and great gameplay) and I feel that multiplayer shooters are becoming small squad based pussy fights rather than warzones.

I bought and Xbox for Halo, a 360 for Halo 3, and a PS3 for Metal Gear Solid 4 (which is now the only game I play on the PS3).
