For a long long time I was quite indecisive which one to buy, but after Heavy Rain launch I think I'm gonna for PS3. If that can be applied to selling game subject, then yes, I think it exists.

I don't see why not. If you not buying a console for its exclusive titles then why are you buying it?

To me it has to be more than "one" game. I bought XBOX over PS3 because of Mass Effect, and most of its XBLA titles.
If I can afford both one day maybe I will get a ps3 as well.

Besides there will never be one game that EVERYONE just agrees is the game to own and makes people buy a console.

Besides I'm assuming that game already exists, and it's Starcraft 2, and the console is a PC.
There are differences in consoles beyond their exclusive or killer app titles. I've got both a PS3 and a 360 at home, and if it's an option, I always play it on the 360 instead for a few reasons.

1) I like the controller better. This is of course HUGELY personal and will vary.

2) Xbox Live is just a better online service, and I know far more people on it then I do on PSN. So playing Borderlands on the PS3 was a very lonely experience, compared to the network I have on the 360.

3) Development cycles. Developing games for the PS3 has proven more difficult than for the 360, which tends to lead to longer times, delays, etc. Examples are Fallout 3, Dragon Age, all games that got pushed back compared to the 360 counterpart. For the same price in the game, it's an inconvenience I'd rather not deal with.

OP: I won't even say one game was killer for me, it was Bioware in general. Knights of the Old Republic prompted me to get an Xbox, Mass Effect 1 and 2 being developed for the 360 made me know I wanted to stick with it. Call me a fanboy if you will, but they're my favorite games and I go where they go.

God of War 3 is tempting me to get a PS3 even though it'd be the ONLY game I'd want for the PS3.

Well... when I heard that they were making Resident Evil 5, I had to buy a current-gen console. So I got a 360 just so I could play RE5. You can imagine my disappointment.

Also, I upgraded my PC so I could get Dragon Age Origins. Well, that and so I could play Left 4 Dead 2 on high.

My friend and I were having a conversation about differences of PS3 and Xbox games/capabilities/online, when he brought up an old, dusty topic:

"Do you think there will ever be a game, so impressive, that it will cause gamers to go out and buy a separate (PS3 or Xbox) system, just to play that ONE game?"

I laughed myself tears. There's just no way.

Then I remembered The Escapist forums.

"Yea, maybe."

The reason I bring this up, is because, in my mind, a Blu-Ray Final Fantasy 7 would cause RPG fans to spend green paper faster then Enron lost it. But, it's just my opinion.

Do you think there's a possibility of such a legendary game? Is there one currently that answers my friends question?
Deadrising did it for me. I had a PS3, but I had heard word of Deadrising a while ago, and I just couldn't take it anymore - I had to run out and get this Zombie game. Guess what: It was the best. Ever.

Knowing R&C would be on it, I got myself a PS3 (also because I am a borderline PS fanboy but I also love Nintendo so I am a heretic!)

This generation, probably not. Console sellers tend to come early in a system's lifespan (see: Mario Galaxy, Tomb Raider, GT3:A Spec), now both have libraries big enough that one game probably wouldn't be enough to tip the scales.

Although Wii Fit shifted a metric butt load of Wiis.

Well if it wasnt for Halo, there wouldnt even be an Xbox 360. I know I bought an Xbox for Halo CE and only own like 3 other games for the console.

For me GOW3 is making me pine for a PS3.
But I know I'll get over it.
I'd say if they ever re-made Shadow of the Collosus on the PS3 I'd convert.

They already exist. I bought a PS1 with my pocket money to play Metal Gear Solid, and I bought a PS3 to play LittleBigPlanet, Flower and Wipeout HD Fury.

Bayonetta is what drove me to buy a 360, so yeah.
Really? Devil May Cry never did anything for you?
Well, Devil May Cry 4 was just awful, so I can understand him.

OT: Does one exist? It depends on the person you ask honestly. I myself would never buy a 360 just to play one game, as my PC and PS3 allow me to play pretty much any current game (excluding 360 exclusives of course).

The easy answer is: sort of. While a game might sell a console, no game will cause everyone to flock to a single console. You buy an Xbox for Halo, a Nintendo console for Metroid and Zelda, and a PS3 for anything that Sony didn't personally produce. Seriously, almost all of the great games for the PS3 are not produced first party. All Sony makes is (admittedly high quality) rip-offs. Call-of-Duty-with-space-Nazis 2 comes to mind. Uncharted 2, while excellently made, would never sell the console for me because the game rips off so many other games at once.
Ironic, since few people complain about that, while that was the primary complaint against Darksiders.
And I'm sure that PS3 owners would say the same about most Xbox 360 titles. Also ironic, since most of this stuff originated on the PC anyway. Quake ftw!
