This may be beating a dead horse, or have developers dropped PC from their main view? It seems that having a shooter, etc. with controls that were designed for PC then ported to console is the oddity.

However, one can also point to things like Dragon Age, where you pretty much needed to play it on PC to get it done correctly.

So here's the question: Do you think that consoles or PCs are the bigger focus of game developers?

Consoles. A wider market, much larger profit margin (not only because of the prices of games), not to mention that console owners are much easier to satisfy.

Besides, consoles offer ease of use on the side of the consumers. Push a button and play. No updates, installations (unless you count the PS3, but shut up, my point still stands), not to mention a lack of any need for major console DRM.

I meant that playing on the console takes out the overview setting that is more like a click-and-kill style than the 3rd person more action-ish gameplay. It's not *broken*, it's just not all it can be.

If you played on a large or HD TV you could tell that the 360 version of DAO was severelly lacking in the texture department.

Anyway I feel like most developers are creating games for the consoles mainly because of its accessibility. Not many people have the means or knowledge to play current gen PC games properly.

The developers will go to the money, and unfortunatly for PC gamers like me the consoles have many more users. Hopefully though some devs will still port to consoles from the PC like they used to.

Of course the console market is getting most of the attention but you cant deny that certain games are just better on PC and usually i like going PC for many games for the simple fact that mods are fucking cool.

Because once they found out that pretty much everything except the RTS was better on the console, they catered to a larger audience, and that piracy was a much smaller issue, PC developers went to a much nicer happier place known as consoleland!

Oh, you know its consoles. Easier development, making your game for a system that has rather set-in-stone specs, less piracy and beyond.

The only games that inherently function better on PC's are proper FPS's and RTS's.

They're equally focused, IMO. I mean, to make maximum profit, they'd need to make sure the game* is perfect on any platform. Only people who play specific platforms make it "special".

*Lol, sorry.

Perfect on any platform... man, I dream of a game that is perfect on ONE platform...

It really depends on the developer. Valve is more focused on the PC, while Bungie is concentrated on consoles.

Consoles for the money ( even the games are more expensive). PC is an afterthought. I hate that.

I know, but I'm a starry eyed gamer. I hope that one day they'll get it right.

certain developers have their focuss on PC (Valve for example), but the majority aim at the consols for the reason that the majority of the market is on the consols

Consoles pirate just as much as PCs in fact just awhile ago PS3 was hacked and they also have updates so that leaves you with just one point.

Yes while devs are becoming more focused on consoles it does not mean PC will fall by the way side. They have to make their money somehow.

PCs are just too much trouble and takes up too much time of the the developers partly because users will have different applications/operating systems/Hardware/in-game settings which can cause many problems, unexpected problems which can also require extensive Beta testing on different systems.

unlike the PC, Consoles problems are easily troubled shooted becuase most of the problems that do occur are the hardware faults of the machine or poorly developed scripts, textures and so forth

The problem with consoles is that there's so many braindead consumer slaves on them resulting in a $50k game with a $2mil marketing campaign selling more then a $10mil game, resulting in every company that makes good games bought bought out by richer companies that produce shit.

Same here. I think both markets are doing fine. Heck, the PC market has even been blowing up more than ever lately, so all the PC-elitists really have nothing to complain about anymore.

Lets see;

Updates, present on all 3 current gen consoles.

Installs for disc based games, present on the 360 and ps3 (ps3 include manditory installs.

DRM present on all 3 current gen consoles. And if bricking your console as a punishments not a major response, I'm not sure what is. Console DRM just affects less innocent byestanders, and almost all of them brought a modded console unknowingly.

Developing on the PC eads to the need to cover more hardwear types yes, but that more affect bugs, as pc arhitechture is fairly uniform, and instruction tend to go through standerdised instruction sets like directx anyway.

The PS3 is no easy beast to program on, partially as its noticiably different in archtecture to anything else on the domestic market, especially if you want to use it to its fullest advantage.

Console games are really easier to make as they are often less complex than pc games. This has become less so recently, but is still true. The disparity in FPS games certainly has, but stratagy, there are more complex flash game than console stratagy games!

It's the consoles because it's a more diverse audience and it makes the developers more and more money and that's what they care most about nowadays.
