Could they have? Most certainly. Anything could have existed.

Did the exist? Probably not, seeing as there has been no proof or real recorded history of them (other then fiction novels and folklore)

Because you said "could" its a definite yes. There's lots of evidence for and against up to you what you believe, i believe they did because of the evidence I have seen. There are plenty of documentary that show you this and will tell you the same thing i have at the end.

Saying that the Dragon was just a giant land lizard is one possible theory yet another shows us how they could have wings and be able to fly. By having hollow bones like some types of birds it could help make it light enough to take off. This then branches out to say that its possible they have another organ that contains hydrogen produced by bacteria inside the Dragons gut.

If the hydrogen organ theory is true its also possible they could breathe fire. If they were able to release the gas out the mouth into the air they could create a stream of fire. The problem's would be were would the spark come from and if a spark was generated would the fire continue down the source of the steam back into the inside of the Dragon and maybe blow it up. Through simulations it is very possible that the Dragon could create a safe steady stream through many complicated little bits and the spark could be produced by chewing on certain metals found in caves so that when they grind teach they could have in the back of their mouth. is they did breathe fire it is unlikely that after they would be unable to fly due to the hydrogen loss.

Up to you what you believe but i think yes.

Of course! Haven't you ever seen Reign Of Fire?

It's a documentary.
It is the best post-apocalyptic documentary starring both Matthew Mcconaughey and dragons EVER!

It's not like we have trawled the entirety of solid ground. There's plenty of things to be discovered, you never know what might turn up.

I certainly hope so, otherwise all this dragon slaying equipment I bought will be totally useless.

depends on what kind of dragon we're talking about. For the most part No. They didn't exist. There's very little history even claiming they existed. You don't hear about how the 100 years war was finally decided when a dragon came in to the mix? Other than creation myths and oral stories few ever claimed dragons were hanging around.

I think we would've noticed that.

I'm surprised at how many people think they could have existed considering how many antitheists are on this site.
it is also shocking that a croca-duck exists.....but that is the FAIL way evolution works......it defies logic...none of the mythological dragons exist...that is just retarded, but a dragon like creature is very likely. pterodactyls existed so...i mean they might have been considered dinosaurs or something
Assuming we're talking about a giant ectothermic creature like a dragon. (see reptile) It would need to either live along the equator or be primarily aquatic to survive in this day and age. Interesting, how African cultures and other very hot temperatures don't have a dragon in their tales. The closest thing Egypt had to a dragon was the basilisk (a six legged hippo/crocodile thing? I think they?re might?ve been some rooster in there too) even most desert reptiles are small because the cold nights don?t allow for large growth.

It most definitely would not be lithe and agile at that size because being a reptile it would again, be an ectotherm and would require MASSIVE amounts of food just to sustain it?s existence lying around doing nothing let alone being quick and agile and flying.

Pterodons/Dinosaurs lived in a much hotter would then we currently do and that?s how they were able to get to such massive sizes. They would not be able to survive anywhere in the modern climate except maybe if they lived in the hottest places on earth even then most of those places are deserts that have not so hot nights.

So yeah, maybe they did exist but they wouldn?t be anything at all like what myths say. Especially the size part. So No flying big majestic lithe dragons

I doubt there were ever dragons on this planet. As others have said, people probably just dug up dinosaur skeleton, the power of rumors took care of the rest.

But i still hope there are dragons - IN SPACE!

Dragons as everyone thinks of them... not on our planet...
According to a book I read, Dragons could not have evolved from any living thing on our planet because they have 6 limbs.... which no reptile has...
However, A wyvern (Like a Dragon, only 2 legs and 2 wings) are evolutionary possible

But in Free County USA there IS a dragon!
I dont get your logic certain species of snakes lacking any limbs over a period of time developed samll lizard like front legs so your logic is flawed if in the right circumstances evolution can work to not just modify existing organs and apendiges but create new ones over time to serve a required purpose.
After reading your reply, I decided to look for the book to see if it could explain it better, but upon finding it, it turns out that I mis-remembered it, sorry 'bout that... I'll write out a bit of the passage I was thinking of:
Some argue that dragons connot have four legs and two wing because no known vertabrae has more than four appendages. AS can be seen in the above diagram,[which doesn't really explain anything IMO] the evolution of a four-legged dragon's wings provides clear proof of Darwin's hypothesis of animal evolution through fortuitous genetic mutation.
The book itself is pretending theat dragon's do exist and its giving simple scientific explinations for different things and information on the differnt dragon types and whatnot... I'll give another sample of its explanations:
One hypothesis suggests that dragons breath fire as a result of generationg methane gas in their stomachs, a gas which also enables them to 'float' like balloons
The book really makes a good arguement towards the existance of dragons... but of course its all fiction...
