I find it interesting how many cultures, many of whom had no substantial contact with one another, have references to enormous lizards called dragons. Now ignoring the fact that there are Komodo Dragons, is it possible that, at some point, a species of Dragon like creatures did exist? Maybe not the flying, fire breathing, size of office building variety, but dragons none the less.

Didn't Discovery Channel do a special about something like this?

They said somewhere along the lines of actually finding a reptile skeleton that resembled a dragon. (or something like that)

Some people blabber about old diaries, texts, paintings and such things talking about/illustrating dragon-like creatures, I don't have any proof of this however and I have no direct opinion on the "Have dragons existed" topic.

I did have a friend on Steam who believes/believed that dragons existed tho. Don't remember who.

True dat.

I think they could've, seeing as though they're pretty similar to dinosaurs.

They did, and they were called dinosaurs.

But seriously, it's possible that all those cultures found t-rex skulls and such and immediately jumped to 'dragon.' That's exactly what I would think if I found triceratops bones in my backyard.

DragonForce, no way.

And then ground up those priceless bones and ate them as medicine. *sighs*

Op: Yes, Dragons almost certainly exist. Just not on this planet. We have had enormous flying reptiles here, and we have creatures that use fire and explosives to defend themselves (termites). It isn't a stretch to consider that a creature somewhere has combined the two. It is highly likely that a large creature which flies and looks rather reptilian exists somewhere.

That I saw...

I think out ancestors got a bit confused when they dug these up and tried to put them back together along the Silk Road...

Yes they could, if evolution had work that way. But I doubt they would be able to breath fire.

I thought they did a while ago and only the fire breathing thing was all myth and stories. Or maybe they were around during the dark ages and were hunted down due to there dangerous nature.

Dragons as everyone thinks of them... not on our planet...
According to a book I read, Dragons could not have evolved from any living thing on our planet because they have 6 limbs.... which no reptile has...
However, A wyvern (Like a Dragon, only 2 legs and 2 wings) are evolutionary possible

But in Free County USA there IS a dragon!

Don't think so. My bet is dragons are myths created in response to finding dinosaur bones. Don't think knights ever fought dragons, I would expect some more compelling evidence than hearsay to believe that.

Closest thing we have evidence of is Dinosaurs. Which are fairly close.

As for spell-casting, flying, fire-puking, loot-hoarding dragons? Not likely they've been on earth. But damn that'd be cool.

I don't know if they did or not, and really can't form an opinion.

I damn well hope they did, though, so I can find a way to clone them.
