Play a game with a openly gay superhero kinda like Mario.
And just like Mario, The hero would have to save his life partner

I vaguely remember this being done before but I didn't comment. Yes, but I my biggest thing about any game is immersion, which means I put myself in the characters shoes. It's harder to do that if they are homosexual.

As long as his whole character description didn't consist of the words "is gay", then yes.

A lot of people seem to forget that 'gay' is a sexual preference, not an entire personality.
Which, by the way, is really fucking annoying.

I already have.

If you're talking the main protagonist, then of course. I'm perfectly comfortable playing straight female characters. Why not gay males?

Legend of Zelda?

BA-DUM TISH!

I remember reading an online article somewhere, and the gist of it was how the gay community voted Link as the greatest, and most stylish, video game protagonist. That short tunic and white tights doesn't say anything?? lol

only if the main character ad his life partner are not ridiculously stereotype gay and they don't make a really big thing about it.
btw the only gay character who's personality is based on something other than stereotype gays is the gay ghost dog in the manga Kekkashi, and that's just sad if you think about it.

If the game is fun then it does not really matter to me. Of course, being immersed as the character would be difficult considering I'm straight but then I would treat it like a third-person perspective, your just kinda peeking in on them to see whats up. And yes, I do realize my last sentence set me up for a gay joke.

This has been done thousands of times. I personally think it is stupid to reveal a character's sexuality, you will only alienate one population of gamers from the game. I wouldn't play a game with a gay protagonist, as mentioned above, I play for immersion, not for awkward detachment from the protagonist.
And why not? How does a character's sexuality make the game any more or less immersive? I'm completely straight, but if a game came along with an openly gay protagonist I'd still play it. For me, immersion is about the environment, the gameplay, the realism, not whether or not I can imagine myself as the character him/herself (provided it's not something like Oblivion or Fallout or whatever). Saying you won't play a game with a gay protagonist because it isn't immersive enough is exactly the same as saying you won't play something like Tomb Raider if you're a guy, because it isn't immersive enough, for the same reason. It's just not a valid point, in my opinion.

Is this a serious question?
Not to be rude, but why would it make a difference?

As long as it is a good game. Why not?

In all reality I did play a gay hero in Mass Effect. My female character had that sex scene with the Asari chick.
