Yeah, I still play tabletop RP. Currently our group has gone back to basics with good old fashioned D&D, but before that our GM ran a Star Wars campaign, and before that we had a crack at Call of Cthulhu (with a different DM). It's an entertaining way of spending an evening, especially as we spend about as much time chilling out over a few beers as we do actually playing.

So, who here plays Dungeons and Dragons? I haven't played it for long now (A year, maybe two) but I play, and it's a lot of fun. I'm not hardcore in the basement with cardboard swords, but I play a few times a month.
Hell yeah, I love playing it! highlight of my week :)

I ama big fan of 4th ed, it really is alo tmore balanced, no class is really useless and iut is great to play against powergamers! I hate powergamers so much >.<

I used to...but then my boyfriend got a job in retail and our weekends went out the window. :(
Really looking forward to playing again. Especially as I fugged up my character the first time, so I'm looking forward to redeeming myself a bit.

used to played it, 3rd edition, got me started on rpg's^^

though my group did forsake it for other, less powergaminghappy systems that produce godlike superhumans as playercharacters.^^ best decision we ever made.

I play dnd, Dm dnd, and larp.

My characters are as follows (dnd):

Sir, dwarf, level 23 muskteer
lucy, Succubus, level 1 sucubus and level 1 sorcerer (gesalt campain)
(name forgtten), level 13 monk
(Still in production), level 1 paly <- the character i play when i dm.
(name forgotten), another monk level 2.

4th ed.
Rinsewind level 5 wizard.

I also play Lord of the five rings.

My larping character:

A dwarf fighter called Stompoy.

Play style?
STATS STATS STATS, you role play when need to but it won't effect the outcome... much.

4th ed doesn't exsist to me, why? cause 3.5 does.

I don't know exactly how much discussion value this thread holds, but as a D&D player/DM of 17 years I just thought I'd chime in. I'm mostly into D&D 3.5 but we've done Star Wars d20 and some Silver Age Sentinels as well. I gave Earth Dawn a try a while back but never really connected with the game mechanics very well.

Ok I'm going to be showing my age here but I started playing and DMing at age 11... that was now uh... *wincing* 28 years ago.

I still play once in a while. Still prefer v1.0 AD&D rules, though 3.5 ain't bad, if you wanna go d20 system.

My best character took over a decade to get to his current position of greater god: Valier Cambion. Dude started as a multi-class half-elf fighter/magic-user/thief in 1983 and by about 1995 he'd gone thru being a demi-god and adding a class: Illusionist, then lesser god... (and man it's interesting watching your DM try to come up with battles suitable for gods) and finally to Greater God and retired from play as an active character.

Of course by then I'd started to get a life and couldn't play enough to build up any other characters to that level. But over the years I've played some GURPS, some RIFTS, Vampire: the Masquerade, some Gamma World (remember THAT?) and a few others... FASA's Star Trek RPG... Steve Jackson games' CAR WARS was fun... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the RPG was also pretty fun...

Man... I feel old. LOL

Some D&D (3.5 and over the net these days)
but mostly as real p&p around a table, we've been switching to (new) World Of Darkness: Mage The Awakening and a Burning Wheel addon called Blossoms Are Falling, which takes place in pre-samurai Japan as the people of the time saw it. Meaning Kami's, ancestors, guardian spirits, trolls, fortune tellers, rigid codes of honor and servitudes etc.

If you need to switch rulesets to get rid of powergamers, they you've got a poor GM. A good GM can always bring about the Wrath of God in a believable manner ingame, then simply quip offgame that 'powergaming makes Solar, the servant of overgod, angry'.

A good GM quickly can get rid off, or cause trouble for powergamers that go over the line.

You see, rules go both ways. And those rules and 'legal loopholes' that they exploit can be easily turned against them.

Personally, I feel the 4th edition to have taken too much from MMOs. It may very well be better suited for D&D / RPG beginners, but for a RPG veteran with 15+ years of DMing and playing various games, it is too simple. Perhaps later addons will change this, but for now 3.5 is the only D&D I will play.

Actually yeah, during my stop-over in San Antonio I attended a few sessions with my girlfriend and her older brother. Interesting people in a way, playing D&D Encounters- Undermountain I believe. Had some good laughs, which is what the game is all about.

Not very roleplay driven though, just lots of fights in these short-burst sessions. Still with a cantine of Monster and a childlike demeanour there are giggles aplenty.
Especially when you push your cleric in the pit.

I DM a 4th edition game where the characters have just hit level 2. Before that I played a lot of 3.5 and mixed it up a little with Star Wars d20, and Call of Cthulu.

Maybe once a month due to the amount of work we all have at the moment. I'm not as fanatic about it as the people I play with but it's still fun :)

I would if I could. Nobody plays those sort of things around these parts though. Stupid rural middle-of-nowhere crap village... Same counts for Magick: The Gathering, Warhammer/Warhammer40K and all that.

DM and player in 3.0-4e. I prefer 4e to 3.x due to the lack of OP in the magic system. I never liked playing spell casters but if you weren't, you were screwed. That, and too many save-or-die effects got annoying as hell.

Also play WoD, Dark Heresy, and any other P&P RPG that I come across and have people to play with at least once if I can.
