Come to think of it, i believe Serious Sam has one such missile launcher/RPG. But your argument rings a little hollow considering that an explosive rocket is just about as damaging as you can get with an infantry weapon.
I know.

I wasn't really even being serious, I just enjoy using fully-automatic weaponry in games more, even if the damage sucks hard.

I was aware of your lack of seriousness, Sam, however, is always serious...

Full auto is fun if in certain conditions (one or more may apply):

1. If there is lots of ammo (like a machine gun).

2. If suppressing fire is need (more for paintball/airsoft than games).

3. If the gun in question is a minigun.

4. If stealth is not a concern (like in BBC2 or Blops).

5. If it is a large Russian man wielding a minigun.

6. If zombies are involved.

I still go with damage, tho. One shot, one kill, move to next location, and repeat. Or in my case, 10 shots, one kill, get fragged, respawn, repeat.

Depends on what I'm going to play as. If my team needs a runner (I always refer to Socom when I'm talking about shooters...), then I'll opt out of an assault rifle sometimes, never touching an LMG. I'll grab an SMG or a shotgun. Now, in Socom, bullets do less damage at a distance, so if I'm going to play mid-game, I'd have to unload a whole clip if I play with an SMG, so I'll go with an assault rifle but sometimes use an LMG if we need someone to suppress a target with fire.

That being said, when my role isn't chosen because of necessity but I'm choosing out of preference...I like damage. I like shotguns, and at a range I like assault rifles, that don't necessarily have the fastest fire rate but maybe only take 2 or so hits to drop someone.

a good balance is nice. i prefer damage, but if a dude is moving all over the place and i keep missing, all the damage in the world wont help me. i actually take range into account too for exactly the same reasons.

I really prefer Semi-Automatic weapons over anything else, so I always tend to pick them, or I'll set my weapon to it; like the BAUR in BF2142.

Then again, I tend to try and get the biggest gun avaliable, so usually I get stuck with an automatic, IE: The Heavy in TF2.

Fire rate is for Spray N Pray. Give me power and a modest rate of fire and I will give you an entire dead team in 1 clip.

EDIT: Although I do have the Galil with extended clip in mind when I say that... my favourite primary weapon of any game EVER! (My completely favourite gun is the ASP, that weak little pea shooter is brilliant for showing your skill.)

Am I the first one to say this? Accuracy. I don't care how fast it shoots or how much damage it does, however if I shoot someone in the head I expect them to die. Hell, even in airsoft I try and lower the rps of my gun and increase the barrel length and keep getting better and better tightbores.

pfft, why have 1 when you can have both? have you HEARD of the rocket-launcher-chain-gun!? its a chain-gun...that FIRES ROCKETS! (cant remember what game its from sadly...) "hello guy with assault weapon,HAVE SOME ROCKETS...and then SOME MOAR ROCKETS! :D" ahh...fun times...

but in all seriousness of the post i will have to say rate of fire, who needs to be accurate when you can just spray a couple hundred bullets in someones general direction? odds are at least ONE of your bullets are gonna hit him,and if they dont the guy had to dodge at least or get behind some cover! no one is stupid enough to stand in a hail storm of bullets.

High damage. Maybe it's because I started the genre with HL2, but I have a loathing for all fast weapons. Stupid SMG...

Might also have something to do with my bizarrely high rate of headshots in single player FPS games. Guess I aim carefully.

Depends on what I'm fighting, if it's a tank sim I'll usually take higher damage as it's coupled with higher penetration and therefore has more effect, if it's an RPG or mmo I'll look at dps and if it's a fps I'll make a decision based on the quantity and type of enemies I'm fighting.

It's all about DPS. If you have a gun that does a ton of damage but takes FOREVER to fire again it's useless with more than one enemy. If you have a ubur high fire rate but it's only a pea shooter it doesn't do a thing.

"I have a bullet with your name on it, and imma keep shooting till I found it."

Fire rate I should think. There's no use in having a REALLY big gun that only fires once every two thousand years.

How big a gun would it have to be to have a fire rate like that?

Changes from game to game. Using COD4 as an example, damage. I play slow and waste little ammo. So the less bullets I need per person extends how long I can go before needing to die just to get more ammo.

When it comes down to it, bigger fire rate is the key. When I originally played Half-Life, I at first ignored the SMG because I found the shotgun to be more of an effective weapon, but then I switched to the SMG because the AI was getting ridiculously fast and I needed something that had a big fire rate just to survive.

Damage, I prefer using only well aimed shots rather then spraying a whole clip in some guys direction, and finding out he's still alive and I need to reload.
this. sniper rifles are the only choice for any range but close at which point the only choice becomes shotguns.

I would have to say damage, simply because I prefer burst fire or single fire controlled shots.

there are so many more factors than this think about it if you have a sniper that takes forever to reload that can be okay if you are far enough away that they dont know where the bullet came from and you can kill many enemies. likewise if you have a shotgun you can kill multiple enemies per shot even if the dps is extremely low due to slow pumpimg times.
