Similar to my previous thread I made a year and a half ago about guns; what do you prefer when it comes to medieval fantasy games. Weapons/Spells that can deal a lot of damage but have slow attack or casting speed; or weapons or spells that attack fast but deal little damage.

I like fast attacks. I find myself making rogue/assassin/thief type characters in WRPGs that give me the option. Love to see the quick spam of damage even if it is less damage but a hell of a lot faster.

I tend to like sword & shield characters or people who wield two-handed hammers. If they happen to be a paladin, all the better. I voted slow & heavy.

I usually prefer fast attack speeds, because they tend to be more effective, but when playing Demon's Souls I've found myself using the meat cleaver, because even though it's slow as fuck it is so powerful and so awesome.

So I guess my preference varies between games and weapons.

I like being the agile fighter. Leather armor, twin short swords/daggers, darting all around the battlefield...

I do also enjoy sword and board on occasion, and axe and shield/warhorn on Charr in Guild Wars 2...

really varies between games, most rpg's i prefer fast dual wielding daggers/swords, but anytime I play super smash brawl or I play fallout 3/NV, I always prefer one huge ass hammer to smash stuff with, and for brawl I love playing as Ike...

Dat Sword. kirby's puff ball ass is gone once I connect with the lil guy.

For the sake of the poll though, I voted attack speed, quick attacks cancel out slower damaging ones, so it's a pain in the ass to even get a big ass hit off when the fast guy is hitting you faster than a super saiyan.

Speed . Always speed . If you get interrupted or miss it doesn't matter as much . Plus i feels like i'm getting shit done faster . In WoW i had my warrior dual wield daggers just for the lol's , it was pretty cool , people laughed , but i was still onthe top of my dps meter . Why the hell can't other classes put poison on daggers? Where the sense in that?

I like to feel the impact of each attack so I'll usually play a slow attacking character.

It depends on the game. How useful each stat is varies by game. For example in fire emblem (a turn-based SRPG), speed is vary important because even being moderately faster than your enemies means you get two attacks in combat, which is almost always more useful than gaining a moderate strength boost.

Speed and agility trump raw power any day, as how efficiently and accurately you apply your power always matters more than how much power you have available to you.

Erm, yeah - that. Which is actually more useful? There are lots of other factors that can make one build more viable than the other - the ability to oneshot most opponents with a bit of breaks in between is quite good. But if somebody attacks three times in the same time, and each attack deals half your damage (which would mean, their damage output is 50% higher), then that is better. Lots of variables.

However, assuming more or less equal level of both, then I'd prefer fast attacks.

I am a fan of greatswords, though speed seems to be more effective in most games.
Zweihander is fucking awesome in Dark Souls though.

I prefer to try and balance the two, but having to choose I say Thunder Hammer biatch! I prefer me my ludicrous power to my sparky quick attacks. Even then though, if one is clearly better than the other in a given situation I'll just go with that.

Well I will usually use Bows but If I have to choose a melee weapon I will want something quick and light. I like rogues and rangers. Warriors are kind of meh.

Whoever gets first attack in usually wins

Slow attacks are like sucker punches

I find more agile characters more fun to play, especially when it takes skill do things like circling around enemies, I tend to have more options available to do interesting and flashy things.

I think theres more devs could do with hammers and two handed weapons rather than just big swings. They could include a faster push attack to stun the enemy or a jumping overhead attack.

Many games just don't seem suited to two handed weapons, many can't jump or it's 1-3 on 1 combat. Spacemarine 40k with a hammer and jumpack shows off how fun 2 handed weapons can be.

Nothing's more fun than a button mashing death machine. Fast attacks are far superior.
Still, There's games like Super Smash Bros where I like to play as heavier guys like Ike. Still, everyone in Smash is already so agile that unless you are playing as either Bowser or Ganandorf you are going to relatively fast no matter who you are.

I tend to go for speed, it just feels like i'm doing more.

If you look at say skyrim, most people will use either magic or swords etc, I meet very few people who genuinely use the slower big weapons as it just feels slower using them.

Slow but powerful. Anyone wanna argue that the Kilgore isn't the best weapon in Bayonetta? Thought not! :)

Also slow weapons stagger better.
