Darth Vader.
Revan is a Vader wannabe, Palpatine is an old corpse, Sauron gets his power from a ring, and Ganondorf just cant take a hint.

So evil, one name is just not enough.
The rules say no Satan.
one question? how can Revan be a Vader wannabe if Revan was alive several thousand years before Vader?
Oh man, you get there first... I was going to say that... well I shall put this instead:

Haha, there is a better one but I couldnt find it... or couldnt be bothered finding it. XD
I already beat both of you to it
And again, Revan shouldn't count, as he redeemed himself and ended up becoming one of the greatest Jedi heroes of the Old Republic.
Yes, I saw that... but I also saw that you folded under Vader nerdrage! XD
And he was the greatest Sith Lord and greatest Jedi, its common knowledge that the most powerful force-users preceeded the film time-line and Revan has acheived the most out of all of the big hitters... redemption doesnt count as Revan never left neutrality... he was reluctant to make a "Malak-sized" armada because of its dark side heritage.
So, err... yeah.
(Warning: Fanboyish speech approaching.)
Although Revan was
close to the greatest Sith Lord during his dark time, he wasn't the greatest. Two greater ones come to mind- Darth Bane, the Sith'ari, and the previously mentioned Darth Sidious. Darth Bane created the Rule of Two, the success of which culminated with the true greatest Sith Lord, Darth Sidious. Sidious's force power was never really explored in the movies other than his powers of manipulation. Beyond that, he was a master of Force Lighting and he could actually use Force Storm, which can wipe out an entire fleet. But his Force skill isn't why he was the greatest... he was the greatest because he was the only Sith to ever have complete dominion over the Galaxy and wipe out the Jedi, save for less than a handful. Although when it came to combat he may have lost to Revan, he was the most successful out of all of them.
So, this is how I look at it:
1. Sidious
2. Bane
3. Revan
... Good GOD, I've become such a Star Wars fanboy within just the past few weeks =X blame cball11.

Vader was created before Revan.
no he wasn't
I'm putting you down on the list of stupid people.
Vader was first introduced to the public in 1977. Revan was in KOTOR, which was released in 2003. Big difference.
The problem is that he (she?) is talking canon-wise and you're talking movie-wise. Although I don't think Revan is a Vader wannabe, I'm on your side with this. Vader came first. Although some of the other things that came from Star Wars are more enjoyable, the source material has to be respected as... well... the source. It all started there.
