I vote DC simply for DC Vertigo. Fables, DMZ, Y: The Last Man. All fantastic.

If you take Vertigo out the running, I vote Marvel as their characters are much more entertaining.

Edit: And don't forget Sandman.

I never really got the whole rivalry between DC and Marvel fans. It's even more meaningless than the whole console war thing.

I like both for different reasons. When it comes to the universe as a whole, I prefer the Marvel 616 to the DCU. Marvel just seems to have a much smoother and equally distributed power curve, which in my opinion makes the big picture more interesting. This is also why I prefer the big Marvel events to the big DC events. Marvel just has a better sense of scale.

However when it comes to individual series, I prefer DC (especially the DC imprints like Vertigo and Wildstorm). Almost all of my favourite American comics are DC: Planetary, Hellblazer, Transmetropolitan, etc.

Also, I'm slightly disappointed that in a poll about American comics, there's no mention of Dark Horse or Image Comics. I mean, come on: Invincible, Hellboy, Usagi Yojimbo? Anyone?

Ultra Joe always wins against Vs threads.

OT: Deadpool = win. Deadpool = Marvel. Therefore Marvel = win. That's the Transitive property

While DC had a few iconic characters I have nothing but adoration for, Marvel just seemed to be a superhero universe that was, well, more super. Plus the X-Men and thus Deadpool.

To me, the difference was always that Marvel is about people who happen to have superpowers. While DC is about capes and tights who happen to have personalities.
Or to put it differently: Marvel figure out the personality first, the powers later or at the same time, while DC comes up with the powers and suit first, and get to the personality later. (I'm not dissing DC or anything, though. They've got great comics.)

I like DC. I love the Joker as a character.

But Marvel has Iron Man. I want an Iron Man suit. Plus they have Deadpool so sadly DC loses.

They're both great though and I don't care enough to actually debate it. Sci Fi is more my forte.

Marvel here as well.

Doesn't seem like DC has done anything that interesting with their characters in a while.

I gotta say DC. Nothing against Marvel, but I like the likes of Superman and Batman more than Deadpool and Captain America (but not by much, between the four of them).

Plus, DC focuses more on stuff like aliens and parallel dimensions while Marvel (who does do a lot of what I mentioned but not as much) is more grounded in reality.

DC. Motherfucking Batman can do pretty much anything.
Then the Justice League is the quintessential team of super-heroes, theres nothing better than that in my mind. Even the Avengers that Marvel has going. Even when you put it down to names... its the goddamn Justice League.

That and if you have any doubts about DC, read Superman: Red Son. Lex Luthor is probably the best villain ever.
Also, could Vertigo be classified under DC since it is a print under them. If it can be... then theres no contest

Marvel has a dozen movies out and another dozen on the way. Right now,the only official thing DC is Green Lantern. One point for Marvel.
The quality of the movies vary. DC basically ruled, back in the 80's. Then BatMan and Robin came along and DC just found it self in a rut for the next decade and a half. Then it finally finds its footing and comes out with a reboot of Batman, which was great. Then another SuperMan, which was great. Then The Dark Knight, which was AWESOMENESS. Now it only has Green Lantern and after that its planning or rut. Marvel started late, but big. AND THEY KICKED ASS! SpiderMan, X-MEN, Blade. Then Hulk and Daredevil, which were basically how not do it movies. then 2 of the best comic movies ever. X-Men 2 and SpiderMan 2, they did everything right. But it was the dark ages after that. Every sequel sucked. Fantastic 4 sucked. Everything. Then IronMan lit the way and every movie after that was great. [ORIGINS NEVER HAPPENED] Points for both.
Marvel has been popping out events forever. Bt this decade is full of them. DC goes at a slow pace, but is great. One for DC.

3 for 3. EVERY ONE WINS!

DC has maybe five decent heroes, the rest are retarded with retarded names (Elongated man, anyone?). Marvel for life.

Well to be honest, Both!

Its hard not to appreciate both companies. They both have some of the most memorable and recognizable characters of all time. I think what people have to understand is that both companies try to do differnt things with thier characters.
Marvel takes the idea about putting Superheroes in "Real-World" situations (like Insurance comapnies that deal with superhuman collateral damage or superhero reality shows) and runs with it.
DC on the other hand deals with the idea of legacy, the impact superheroes and thier actions have on people.

please no comments on how stupid this is. just mark it in the poll. in my opinion, Marvel comics is better because the Thing is awsome. please explain why with your answer.
I was always the outcast among my friends, I didn't like superheroes, I didn't like Star Wars or that other mediocre spin-off of it *evil laugh*, and I never could get into anime.

Edit: Don't worry, I'll do it for you....

There, that's should at least stop a couple trolls.

*puts on flame resistant suit*

Okay, I'm ready.

I'm going to have to say Marvel. They're more willing to do mature-like stories for their readers than DC comics. After all, why do you think they made their own ratings system, and no longer get approval from the Comic's Code Authority? They understand that to get as many readers as they can and to appease them, they have to appeal to several age demographics. DC has had their mature-like stories these past few years, but not to the extent Marvel does.

And if I may say, Image comics is also a good contender for one of the top comic book publishers. Their comics like Spawn, Witchblade, and the Darkness helped pave the way for comics that appeal to older readers.

Oh, and of course, Marvel's Deadpool is freakin awesome!

If I have my choice, Preacher written by Garth Ennis and published by Vertigo.

But since we're limited to Marvel VS DC, I have to go with Marvel hands down. A great cast of villains, great cast of heroes, and not to mention Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon. DC has its moments but I've just never been able to get into it. Not even the Blackest Night storyline that I know some people are raving about. I did adore the Killing Joke, though.

And yes, Dead-freakin-Pool.
