I was just browsing the forums when I came across a Jack and calumon (or just Jack)talking about how prozac dosen't work.
(link to thread:http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.203107-A-warning-to-all-who-feel-Depression-Prozac-isnt-that-good)

this got me wondering, how many people have had depression on the forums? It would seem from the replies on the thread that there was alot, but I thought that I would make a thread to see.

I have never been depressed but some one close to me is and they are on prozac, which seems to work ok for them, but I think that they have a chemical imbalance.

P.S. checked search bar and didn't see any such topic, but sorry if there was one

Nope, never been depressed. Quite a few people I know have never even seen me sad. I'm generally a Happy Chappy.

Meh, you can say I have mood swings in that area but it's usually associated with the people around me.

By nature, I'm fun guy, but meh.

I've got bipolar disorder. I had it very bad in the past, but it seems to have almost completely calmed down now, and I'm very contented with life.
I'm wagering you were misdiagnosed, a great deal of people were misdiagnosed in the 90s, because frankly... Bi-polar disorder only gets worse with age. It never goes away.

Speaking from personal experience, you never really feel like it's a problem... but as they say, crazy people do not believe themselves to be crazy.

From 15 through to 18 I was rather depressed. Worst time to get it aswell because I lost all desire to do anything.

Never took medication because I dislike the thought of taking anything, recreational or medicinal. Alcohol in enough volume helped though, it made me numb which I guess was the first step on the road to being happy again.

I'm a sufferer of bipolar... I get very sad, very happy, very violent and very apathetic.

I spent a good year and a half during secondary school (High school to you americans) horribly depressed, it ended with me having a mental breakdown in an art lesson... the school wanted me to go get proffesional help after that but I refused, not wanting my parents to know it had happened, I managed to fool them for the entire time I felt like that, even managed to cover up the self harm and suicide attempt...

I was clinically depressed between grades 8 and 10. I'm over it though (and I didn't require drugs to do so!).

Mine came from a car accident. I hit my head pretty hard on the corner of the window border, and got a concussion. That bonk on the head altered the way my brain distributes chemicals, which is what is causing my depression. I could get the medication needed to correct this, but I don't have the money to pay for such a thing. And i still have another 50 days until my companies health insurance will cover me. Even with meds, (which i am taking, just not taking the stuff that will work best) Odds are I am stuck with depression for the rest of my life. As Yahtzee said: Tan-fucking-fastic.

Well, if you must know, I was depressed for a while, when my Grandpa died. It wasn't so much the fact that he died, although that was depressing, but it was more the fact that my Mum just couldn't get over it. She lay in bed most of the day for about a month, so we had to find our own ways to school.

This was about 2 years ago, and for about a year she was taking out her anger on us. She wouldn't stop shouting and swearing, and she had to take happy pills which still didn't work.
Add on to that the fact that I had tests to work for, and I wasn't a happy guy. People were starting to notice at school too, as I wasn't talking as much.

However, this year has been the best year of my life. I've made new best friends who I can really count on, and I've done loads of stuff with my old best friends that have really cheered me up. I've also had loads of new experiences, and despite everything, I did well in those tests. Even though they counted towards nothing in the end. Stupid SATS.

Oh, and my Mum is fine now. :)

I'm generally miserable, and a lot of people say that about me and question me about it... I love company, but most of my friends live 40-60 minutes away, so it's not like I could just nip round to a mate's house. It's generally more just not being happy than being depressed, but I'm kind of miserable because of it, and now since I was dumped I don't really have anyone to talk to. I don't mention it much, but a lot of people question me about it...

I used to suffer from depression roughly between the ages of 16 and 20, but a couple of years ago I got over it with the help of a very good therapist. I've now found a comfortable emotional balance in my life that keeps me from crashing and burning every few months like I did before.

Should add an 'on/off' option. Mine keeps coming and going and it's been awful in the past couple of days, but I'm feeling a little bit better today.

I don't allow myself to become depressed, as I've totally no reason to be. What is it with people these days that every disappointment leads to instant depression? The clinical ones I can understand, but the rest? Ah well. I've got no experience with it, so I shouldn't talk I guess. Happy happy is good!
