I know some people got really pissy about the fact that ME2 had an Ammo system instead of the infinite ammo from ME1.

I love the mass effect series myself and can't wait for the third game.

It was alright. Although I was rather disappointed that they removed a number of features that I enjoyed from the first game including the vehicle sections. That's right, you heard (read) me, I actually enjoyed the vehicle sections! I also didn't really care for the implementation of the heat sync thing, mostly because it didn't make the slightest bit of sense from a storytelling perspective. However none of these things were exactly deal breakers for me.

Beated once and then tried to go for second time but stoped in the middle.
I better would like it if not for the 3 men team and repeated hide behind the cover shoot out.

Great game, bad RPG, in my opinion.
This. I though it was an awesome shooter with a great story. But it is funny how it pretends to be a RPG.
I know right, dump the annoying inventory system and it forfeits its RPGdom [/endsarcasm]

OT: Yes i thought it was a great RPG, maybe a tad simplified but still great
No forfeiting any pretense of building a character, along with very little customization as far as weapons are cocerned does make less of an RPG. BioWare could have easily overhauled the bad inventory system from the first game and fixed it, instead they just took the easy way out with upgrades.

I absolutely loved Mass Effect 2. While the first game is great on it's own, the sequel pushes it above and beyond what can be done with such mechanics. The shooting is improved, the bullcrap has been cut out of the menu management, and the player's enjoyment is increased 110%.

I can not wait for Mass Effect 3, if Mass Effect 2 is any indication of where the series is going.

It's in my top 5 favorite games of all time.

I loved that they ripped out the inventory system because it was redundant. I love that the characters on the ship had more to say. I loved that the combat wasn't extremely dull.

The only thing I didn't like was that fucking planet scanning mini game, which can be completely avoided if you import a save.

Fantastic game, should've kept some semblance of an inventory system and maybe a few more skills, could just be me picking nits.

Main plot isn't that great compared to the first, felt like it was stalling for time by adding Collectors and Harbinger instead of figuring out ways to stop the Reapers. Still great game, nearly the best of 2010 (outshined by Bayonetta).
It did kinda feel like the plot was stalling. It isn't the first, so there is no true beginning, and it isn't the last, so no epic conclusion. However, it was one of the greatest midpoints I have ever seen, except for maybe "The Empire Strikes Back."

I agree with the weapons one, but the armor thing was done well in my opinion (It was kinda stupid to be COMMANDER Shepard and walking around in urban camo)

But honestly taking out an inventory/armor/weapon system doesnt get rid of its RPGness it just lessens it, you are still ROLEPLAYING commander shepard, making decisions and dialogue choices and it still has leveling up and a class system, thus it is still an RPG

Most of the haters of ME2 loved ME1, most of the haters of DA2 loved DA:O.

People don't like change. Granted some of the changes in both games were not for the better, but a fair few of them were, but some people want clones of their favourite games but with new stories.

That said I loved Mass Effect 2, although I disliked how the game treated the player like they were a moron, it amazes me how anybody could play the game without having everyone survive the suicide mission, unless they did it on purpose, and yet they make it sound like it would be hard to accomplish.
Yeah that was a little meh, honestly i had to build a playthrough just to fail and lose people to make it seem realistic. It only becomes hard if you dont take time to gather resources or do loyalty missions

Played it almost as many times as all the Persona and Devil Survivor games put together.

Finished 4 times, to be precise. On Insanity currently, can't bring myself to play it right now. But hey, there's not time limit or anything ;d

So yeah, loved the game.

I liked it a lot, even more than the first game. That said, after playing Alpha Protocol, I kinda realized that they could tweak the conversation system a little more to have a similarity to AP, like to add timed conversations or maybe even an option based on your class. You know, little stuff like that.

Although, I guess if they were timed, then there'd be no incentive to do the "investigate" options and always go forward in dialogue, so... maybe not?

But otherwise, I liked Mass Effect 2. I like shooters and I like RPG's, but if given the choice, I will probably more often than not pick the shooter over the RPG.

Pretty decent game, I can't say it's the greatest game I've ever played, Only played through it once. I plan on buying ME3, it made a good impression.

I do think I prefered the way weapons were handled in ME1 compared to ME2. ME1 did get excessive with the inventory as I often had tens of useless repeats or "Inciendiary ammo III and IV".

But I liked it more than the linear upgrades that ME2 had. I mean in ME2 I was able to take the sniper that normally took 2 rapid shots to overheat, and decided to give it the high power attachments and ammo to give me one powerful shot before overheating, which with the Infiltrator's cloak, was very fun. Maybe what I really hated was the planet probing for resources though upon hindsight.

But the armor? I don't miss that. Maybe a few upgrades for it but I don't need 10 kinds of armor. Especially ones that force appearance. Just let me upgrade the one I have now.

So between the two I did kind of like ME1's inventory over ME2's upgrading but the combat is undoubtedly better in ME2. Compared to the first this was much better.

So the much improved combat trumps the slightly worse upgrade/inventory IMO.

But when all things are said and done they're both really well made games. I'd take both of them if I could everytime.

Absolutely. It's not flawless by any means, but it was, in my opinion, one of the best games of 2010.

Mass Effect 2 is probably in my top 3 favorite games of all times. It is also the game I have the most completed playthroughs of, and have played it on every difficulty except insanity, plus having played every DLC that have been released to date.

It was great until you realize that the karma system is so inflexible and so punishing that your whole experience becomes limited by it if you want the entire crew to survive.

If I didn't, I wouldn't have played it nine times. I sort of like it less in hindsight, (after 9 times, the flaws become more apparent and all), but it still was very fun and I'm looking forward to the 3rd installment. I do hope they put some of the missing RPG back into it and then some, but I might be disappointed.

It's a terrible RPG mixed with a good shooter mixed with perhaps the best side stories and believable characters in gaming. So I liked it.
