Story was filler, gameplay was simple and fun but a bit repetitive. The choices you made didn't really affect the game but it feels like they'll have some effect in the next.

Hopefully Bioware won't fuck up the save-import system for the third time

Actually yes alot I got seriously swept up in the hype and was almost certain I'd come crashing down but it really did raise the bar a vastly superior game to the first in almost everyway even if it was super linear.

Very worried about Mass Effect 3 though after Dragon Age 2: Electric Boogaloo I worry Bioware will badly drop the ball again with this rediculous one year dev cycle looks like a return to the years of meh Bioware again (JE, Icewind Dale, NWN etc)

Yes, less than the first one though.
Perhaps if they blended the two, but with the way Boware has been lately I predict the third is going to be by far the worst.

Poll is very simplistic. For me it was ok. I didn't hate it, but I didn't think it was anything special either.

Dragon Age 2, on the other hand, is my favorite recent game from Bioware. First game where they prioritized making the combat fun, fast paced, active and polished, while in other Bioware games it seems like they only work on the gameplay once they have 50 novels worth of dialogue written for the game.

Neverwinter Nights is still my favorite game by Bioware, but now Dragon Age 2 is a close second.

Yes, I liked it. I thought the first game was better though, apart from the Mako sections.
Been a while since I played them however, so my opinion might be a bit off... Just recall that I resented the Gears of War-approach the took in ME2.

NO...at first. Seemed too 'console-like' for me at first, and having bought Mass Effect 1 and 2 at the same time, and then played through them in order, I felt that ME2 was 'dumbed down' somewhat. That the graphics were less, the atmosphere had an HD-makeover, but it just felt...how to explain...like, the graphics from CoD4 to MW2: you could visually see the difference, but it also felt different too. And I didn't like MW2.

But towards the end I really started to like the game (thoroughly encouraged after I met back up with Wrex), and after a second play through, yeah, game is pretty darn good. ME1 still holds that classic appeal to me though, and it really makes me feel like I'm exploring space. ME2 feels like just a really pretty generic shooter with space elements and awesome writing.

Still hate Miranda though. Twit. Me and Jack are gonna be in the backroom working on our...flexibility.

I thought that it was an absolute blast to play. So, yes then. I did like Mass Effect 2.

The OP went on Bioware's forums I'll bet. It's kind of in vogue to hate on ME2 at social.bioware. Which makes no sense, because ME2 is probably my favorite game of all time, and is objectively one of the shining examples of how video games should present stories, even if that story wasn't as strong as in the first part. Not to mention the game itself was a heck of a lot more refined, even if some people prefer a more "traditional RPG" style of gameplay.

somewhat pointless skill trees in the first game.

What the hell are you talking about? The skills tress were amazing in ME1. For an example I was a sniper specialist aka Infiltrator and I think it was amazing how at first your sniper zoom would wobble all over the place and the more you would put points in snipping the better the targeting would get.

I really felt that Shepard was improving and he was progressing through the levels, how was that "pointless"? Please do explain!

Anyway back on-topic: Yes I did enjoy Mass Effect 2, it was a good game. The only thing bad I can say about the game was that I felt more like a shooter rather then an RPG game, that's all.

Great game, bad RPG, in my opinion.
Too true, but still doesnt diminish it's overall quality. On the other end of things, it's annoying that it seems developers are dumbing down the RPG elements in great series's like ME or the Elder Scrolls, although I still hope that DE: HR might breath life into the genre.

Not as much as the original, but only because I lacked the same sense of wonder and amazement as when I first began exploring that world.

I only really had one problem with the game.

Unlike Sarren, Harbinger just wasn't as intersting a villian.

Plus, really fucking annoying...lol

I had a hell of a lot of fun with the game.

Yeah, at some places the story was a lot weaker than the first, I didn't really get the feeling that there was a major villain that actually mattered to the story until late in the game, and the RPG elements were toned W-A-Y down. But I still loved the game, because it was fun, which is what games should be in the first place, in my book.

Well, the second game lacked exploration, the RPG factors were stramlined way too much, Harbinger wasn't as complex as Saren, the story was much smaller in scope, I like the Normandy SR1 better, I missed the Mako...

But that didn't stop me from enjoying it. It was very well written. The only other franchise I love as much as this is Half Life.

too linear, the animations during the talking scenes were terrible and some of the characters were a little to whiny. other then that, everything else was awesome.

It has to be one of my favorites. The series is easily one of the most exciting around at the moment.

Can't wait 'till ME3!!

Every point you invested in it was very incremental, and the changes were extremely hard to notice unless you dumped all your points into that tree. Pointless probably wasn't the right word for it, flawed is probably better.

BioWare had a chance to improve it in ME2, but instead they just ripped it out.

So Im reading a bunch of forums about how everyone hates Dragon Age 2 and couldnt help but notice how Mass Effect 2 was also getting some flak. I thought ME2 was a great game. It improved combat, had a nice story, interesting characters (Jack and Mordin especially) and didnt keep giving you random crap that you would just turn into omni gel later. And despite what people say, I actually liked how every character had his own unique costume instead of having to change it around with various generic body armors as you leveld up. Some more cosmetic customization would have been nice, but it certainly wasnt a deal breaker. The only thing that got to me was the box art for the standard edition.
Both Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 are great games, but they both suffer from similar flaws (though Dragon Age also had a handful more that I won't get into).

They both:
-Abandoned many of the RPG elements that helped define their predecessors
-Greatly simplified the leveling and party systems
-Drastically reduced the amount of playable space
-Had significantly worse stories than their predecessors

It's a perfectly valid comparison to make between them. ME2 is an excellent, but it was definitely a step backwards in a number of areas from the first game (though it made just as many steps forward).

Nothing about it was a deal breaker, but it certainly wasn't up to the standard set by the original ME.
