So I have read and seen videos of this DJ Hero and to be honest, I can only see it appealing to the type of people who go out clubbing every night, and they won't play it because, well, they're out clubbing every night

I love how everyone hates DJ Hero because it doesn't appeal to them. Some people grow up wanting to be rock stars, others grow up wanting to be DJs. Both have a very slim chance of it happening so can we let them pretend for a bit, please?
You guys got your guitars and drums, let them have their turntables.

Idk. I can't really talk. It seems stupid to me, but thats because I'm a musician and DJs are our nemesis. The point being that I fail to see what makes DJ Hero bad and Guitar Hero good besides my own personal prejudices. Besides some of the first music games out there were games like Frequency which essentially were DJ Hero.

I don't know if I'd say it's "going too far" as much as "milking the music video game franchise more." Whether or not it will be successful in the long run has yet to be seen, but it might fit nicely with a niche market (though, as you sort of say, it might not be people who would actually play video games in the first place).

Personally, I doubt it'll do too well. But maybe that's just because I don't know too many people who dream of being DJs and know a lot who would love to be in successful rock bands.

Seriously.

I love how as soon as it was advertised the majority of people where like.
"Omg, It's not rock it's teh sux!"
It was a pretty pathetic reception for game to receive to be honest, when really there is no real reason for it to do so.

How on earth did you come to that conclusion that people who like that music would buy it, Sherlock?

I thought DJing was about freestyling, not following a set pattern.

On a different note, why bother with DJ Hero? Kids need Guitar Hero because they want to be rockstars and its hard to achieve that goal. anyone can take an old song, add "thumpa thumpa thumpa BASSLINE!" to the background and be considered a DJ

I wonder how the turntable will work. Like an old phone?

The game sounds like a horrible idea to me, but I hate the music and such so... Eh. I'm baised.

Ah Cpt you summed it up nicely. People should have realized Activision took the Hero franchise too far when they released GH Aerosmith.

Have you used turn tables?
It's hella harder than playing a guitar.

There is no difference between being a Rockstar and a DJ, I find your opinion rather biased and ill-informed.

They're not taking the franchise too far with DJ Hero. They will be when they make Cowbell Hero (but I'll still buy it).

I advise you listen to a song called donk. No more than 10 seconds thought could have gone into that song.

The lyrics are literally: "Bassline! Put a donk on it. donk donk donk donk donk donk donk"

Well, I just checked out the setlist, and I saw not just "Hollaback Girl" , but the repulsive Black Eyed Peas as well.

Even though they mixed Beastie Boys and the Foo, that' still not enough to get me over the fact that Gwen Stefani's in it.

I also just found out that there is, in fact, a Rihanna/ Motorhead mix. Now come on, that's like combining In Flames with . It's just deplorable.

@effilctar

(posting from my phone which won't let me quote properly for some reason)

It's a hell of a lot easier to be an actual guitar player than a DJ or Producer. Just for clarity DJs play music, Producers make it.

To play guitar you need a guitar and a few unwashed friends and you've got yourself a band. To DJ you need hundreds of pounds worth of equipment, before even buying any tunes. Records by the way cost about £7 each and you'll need hundreds to be a proper DJ.

If you want to be a producer you're talking even more money in software and hardware. I mean hundreds of pounds again.

Sure is a lot of ignorance / snobbery going on in this thread.

Back on topic, I've not really seen the game but I can't imagine it working well, DJing really isn't even vaguely similar to the pattern stuff you do in Guitar Hero.

I don't know how you pull off DJ Hero but hey it could be good for those that want to get away from rock, but on the other hand Activision is milking their still quite new franchise for everything it's worth. At least it's not Keyboard Hero... Wait they're making that too?! Damn it's gonna be like the Great Video Game Crash except with only rhythm games!!! OK that's probably an over reation.

I'm interested in the idea, and I'm not even slightly interested in clubbing. Am I weird?

Anyway, I'd say it's not too far quite yet. Although I think Band Hero sounds truly atrocious. I guess that's because it's aimed at kids though, so let them play their Avril Lavigne.

Since when are lyrics the result of the instrument?
DaftPunk have numerous lyrically short songs and all of them are fantastic, I advise you go listen to more of the genre, without wanting to be a dick but it seems you know very little on the matter.

You may not like the music but effectively all your posts have summed up too is.
"DJ's are talentless twats"
Some of them are complete crap, I'll grant you that but for every bad DJ I'll find you a bad band.

Mashups can be surprisingly good.
