it seems like a week of playin TF2 on my ps3 made me an awesome player, but on counter strike on my pc i still feel like an average player after playing like one year, cuz there is always someone better than me. so do you do better when you play on your PC or console?

If my computer didn't suck balls, I'd probably be better on the PC. As it stands, though, I'm better on console.

What I really want to see is more PC/Console crossover multiplayer... especially in FPS games. Muwahahaha.

Methinks this thread needs a bit of clarification.

I'm assuming you're talking about first person shooters, and in that case: PC absolutely. I've had a mouse and keyboard in my hands for FAR longer than a gamepad. It's pretty annoying playing something like Halo 3 and watching myself miss shots I KNOW I can hit on the PC just because I'm really not used to using a gamepad.

The freedom and ease of use you get with PC makes it a winner for me, if you don't like some piece of software then you can change it. Your not stuck with one system like XBL or Sony Online. If you don't like it, thats it your stuck with it on consoles.

Freedom to choose makes the difference. So many programs and systems available like x-fire, Steam, ventrilo to name a few. The modding is another factor.

Oh course a downside is hacking, but if you find the right games, servers and people then this becomes less of a problem.
Yes, but there have been cases of hackers of Consoles too.

I think the biggest issue with the PC is the customization "advantage" that everyone claims it has. Sure, you can mod your stuff up to be able to do whatever you want, but that can get excessively expensive (the top of the line desktops are, what, $2500?), and, in my case, even if I do get the best possible PC ever, one that could put Gaudi to shame, it's still going to not mean much because I also have to get a brand new desk and make sure it actually properly holds everything in my room.

Why? My desk has almost no room for the mouse, so I /always/ have to set it to 'extremely finicky', which is prone to suckage and failure because even the slightest mouse movement in an FPS will rotate me 540 degrees. It also doesn't help to have gunk build up on the desk which can often cause the [optical] mouse to flip out in the movement detection.

Why is this a problem? Set up Team Fortress 2 (or, hell, ANY recent PC game) to play with just a keyboard and play for a bit. I almost guarantee that you will lose constantly, pretty much proving that mouse control is required.

In other words, it doesn't matter what PC game I play aside from an RTS. I will miss every shot, fail every turn, fall down every bottomless pit, and otherwise suck at everything... UNTIL I plug my PS3 controller into the USB port. Then I can actually play competently, but not until after I set up the control sensitivity to compensate for the different medium, and that's assuming the game even supports "joystick" control to begin with.

Compare all of that stuff I ranted about to a console gaming experience. You have a TV, the console, and your controller. NOTHING else is required, and EVERY game is already set up to work properly with the controller you're using, aside from button layout (WTF, Haze?) and stick sensitivity for FPS games. Everything else in your room has absolutely no bearing on your play experience, aside from the position of your TV, so the "desk" issue I have is irrelevant.

The one thing that may have issues is the TV, since you have resolutions ranging from 480i to 1080p, but there's something else I noticed. Most of the time, when I see someone playing a PC game in 480i (or 640 x 480), it looks like shit, and the only way to make it look better is to jack up the resolution, something which, in the PC's case, drains resources exponentially.

So, yeah. I find that I play a lot better on consoles, and I honestly prefer the simplicity to them, in part because most of the "options" in PC games lead to lag spiky failure in my case.

lol, my ENTIRE computer costs..... let me think.... 250 bucks..... runs nearly all the games. You don't need alot of money to run most modern games well. Two, if your so shallow to base your enjoyment of a game off graphics... then i cant say much...

Lag spiky failures? maybe you were pushing your hardware more than it can handle. Oh yeah, a tip, if you play on an LCD, you cant see more than 60 fps due to monitor limitations. Use -dxlevel 81 in your launch options to make the game run better also.

And i don't get why you dont just get a bigger desk... and a mouse pad for like 7 bucks, there your done.....

Your arguments are based off of conditions in your house that could be easily fixed, and stupid assumptions about the price of computers. and if you want low res to look good, then get a CRT.

Also..... 480i doesnt exist with CRTS because interlaced doesn't exist on crts : ). They also have better image quality than ANY LCD or plasma, and can run at 200 hertz if you get high quality ones. Only downfall is that they are big and heavy. Still superior technology.

I miss CRTs. :(

Yanno what's better than a console? A wireless keyboard/mouse and a video card with component outputs. :D

250? Seriously? No way an 8800 alone is $200.

Before this post is to be read, a word of warning: Angry ranting is to follow.

What the bloody hell are you talking about? I said NOTHING about graphical quality in any of that aside from a short comment on resolutions. And honestly, I think a SMALLER desk would be optimal, as this one has too much extra shit on it so that it leaves, like I said, little room in the 'keyboard and mouse' spot for the mouse.

As for "pushing the hardware too much," that's EXACTLY MY FUCKING POINT. You don't HAVE to worry about "pushing the hardware too much" on a console game because if you're running an Xbox game on an Xbox, you know it's going to work because it's made for YOUR Xbox, just like everyone else's Xbox.

As for conditions for the house, AGAIN, that's my point. It doesn't matter even if I'm living in the most ghetto house ever. If I have a proper power supply and cables, and the equipment for consoles I just mentioned (that is, TV, console, controller) I can still play Metal Gear Solid in all its cinematic glory, whereas I'd be completely fucked for being able to play Crysis, because there would be no way I'd be able to figure out a proper control setup. That's right. I said control. I remember this entire THREAD being about console vs. PC controls, and that's what I based my previous post on.

And please tell me what the hell you're talking about with CRTs not being able to display a 480i resolution. My TV IS an old CRT, and because of that the only resolution that works IS 480i. Also, I'm pretty sure the big glorious plasma TV in the Best Buy produces clearer images than my CRT.

Also, the decent video cards cost $200, and a monitor costs $300. Not even counting anything else, that's $500, something I could EASILY get an Xbox 360, a year of Live, and probably a few games with. Again, games that would run on the Xbox without issue. Apparently YOU need to do YOUR research.

Yes I'm being a bit hot-headed about this. I'm quite aware of that, but I find it offensive that you have the gall to say I have "stupid assumptions," claim that I'm "so shallow to base my enjoyment off graphics" (My favorite Wii games all happen to be the downloadable SNES and Genesis titles), and yet, despite your apparent "greater experience" with PCs (judging from all the technobabble you threw into your post, and your claims of why I'm just wrong), you fail to get your facts straight and don't even use proper English?

Fun facts: Generally, the human eye SEES THINGS at a rate between 60 Hz and 75 Hz. Please tell me why, for any god forsaken reason, you would need something that refreshes at 200 Hz. And just to quash your arguments further, my PC is set to a refresh rate at 75 Hz on an LCD monitor.

(For those confused, Hertz (or Hz) refers to the number of occurrences per second. In the case of eyesight or display refresh rate, this is identical to "frames per second." For gameplay rendering it can vary, due to lag.)

This is why I absolutely hate discussions like this, and why I am even bothering to post not once, but twice, now that you've pissed me off. I say a few things why I dislike PC gaming (I HARDLY said all the reasons), and I get told off about why I'm wrong, regardless of the main point, regardless of what the situation is. Forums, chat rooms, or even REAL FUCKING LIFE. And if you still don't get it, I'm going to say it plain and simple. My main reason for not liking PC games, and being bad at them, is because I find the mouse to be TOO FUCKING FINICKY, even if I have all the mouse room in the goddamn world and the mouse sensitivity is set to 'extremely low.' Are we clear yet?

In my life, I can count the PC games I've played on two hands. I've grown with consoles and I'll always be better on consoles. It just feels right for me. Also I don't have the massive amounts of cash to constantly upgrade a PC for gaming every other week.

I started playing on consoles, and I'm predominantly playing on consoles now. I prefer them, but PC games are fun too.

I have TF2 on both PC and 360, and I'm better on 360. Probably because the whole PC population is better than me at gaming.
So I think console for me

Wow, off topic much. I don't think this is meant to be a 'which one is better thread'. Those are my domain anyway, get offa my land!

Anyway. I find that I am above-average on PC shooters, depending on the complexity of it. I kick ass in UT3, it's just so easy, but in 2142 I'm only good at certain things, probably because there's so much to do.

I don't have online play on my 360, but I kick everyone I know in the ass every time we do a 1v1, 2v2, or 4v4 game. And most of them do have Xbox live and consider themselves very good. Even if I havn't played said game in months, I'll just need an hour or so before I really start raking in points.

In summary, It's harder to be really good on PC games, I dunno why, maybe they're more complex? (BF2 vs Bad company eg) Or maybe people sink more time into them? But, if you're good at PC games and aren't averse to the console controllers, then you'll probably do well on those, too.

I like aiming with my mouse. Though I have aim with analog but I'm used to the mouse.

Awww Massuh, that was a nice end to the thread..
It pleased the Awesome One, and all things in the world were inherently good and Awesome, and all in his realm were happy.

But then the evil Massuh did come, and stompeth all over the realm of Awesomeness, and the Awesomeness was indeed consumed by grief.

The Awesome One did leave this place, and traveled for but 40 days and 40 nights and survived with nough but Awesomeness and condoms. He came to a mysterious fork in the road, one way led through many an Awesome meadow of joy and happyness; the other lead down a dark road of Massuh and death.

The Awesome One, consumed by rage that the Evil Massuh did dare corrupt his road with a fork, stood astride the paths, his well-oiled loins glistening in the rays of Awesome that did flow from his mind, like water from a fountain. The Awesome One spent yet another 300 days and 300 nights and one half a day more contemplating which path he should take. He was met by a lone traveller: a Hannarr by the name of "This one,". This one said that this one wished to inform him of the Inkindlers, and how they brought the Awesome mass- relays into the galaxy. This one wished to inform him that they gave us all the gifts of language, space travel, Halo rings, and wild, kinky sex.

This one did then leave that place, and left The Awesome One to mull over this new found knowledge. The Awesome One did then disregard this knowledge of the Inkindlers as an unholy- nay- unAwesome blasphemy, and moved down that dark road.

A road so devoid of Awesomeness that it shuddered and groaned under every step of the Awesome One. The road did attempt to hinder The Awesome One's journey through many nefarious schemes. It did try to make him trip upon many an un-Awesome root, and slip on many a banana peel; but, The Awesome One did not stray from the path of rightiousness and Awesomeness, for he had to reclaim his land fromthe Evil Massuh.

When The Awesome One did reach the end of that path, he came face to face with the one known as The Evil Massuh, and they locked blades of Awesomeness and un-Awesomeness.

The battle raged on for 10 days and 2 hours, culminating in an Awesome move that could almost rival an ULTRA KILL((c)ULTRAJOE), and The Evil Massuh was struck down, and all was well in the land of The Awesome One once more, there were many promiscuous women, and Awesome ninjas and Awesome pirates did live in harmony once again. They did indeed Fornicate Under Command of the King, and made many an Awesome pirate-ninja child.

This event is still celebrated to this day on January 18th, as Awesome Day.

One day, those Awesome pirate-ninja-children did rebel, and escape their tormentors parents. They did flee from the land of Awesome, and did found a cult in the worship of The Evil Massuh. These children grew, and founded a village. They named this village "Sparta.". It was strategically placed so as to make it impossible for The Awesome One to attack. Or The Awesome One would have to risk entrance through The Evil Massah's back door.

The Awesome One did kneel and pray for the ULTRAJOE to aid him and his Awesome people in their time of need (despite differing views in the electoral commity), and to destroy the town of Sparta through their firery gates.
