Yes unless your a wanna-be ganster or one of those people that copy things they like a little to much like shooters. Unless if its an RPG then its fine...(Borderlands don't count)
Just remember, when you use this argument when talking to non-gamers, always remember to add that what you are 'killing' are not 'people' but AI directed models of people. They may be realistic and all, but in the end, you're not really 'killing' anyone. The only difference between shooting ships in Space Invaders and shooting terrorists in Modern Warfare is the realism.Offworlder said:I'll use an example I used when I answered on a thread like this one:
Killing hundreds of people in COD does not want to make me go out and knife people.
This, this, and this some more. The people who are messed up in the head and play violent games and then go out and shoot up some school or other public location give the rest of us sane people a bad rap and give people like Jack Thompson and the good ol' folks over at FOX, i.e. the Mass Effect "porn" scene, the ammo they need to attack the rest of us. A large percentage of us, like say 99.99%, are the sane people. The other .01 are the ones who are, well, less than desirable. The Austin said:Most likely not, as long as the individual is smart enough to tell the difference between reality and fantasy.

Good move. Like my grandpoppy always told me "Always back away from someone threatening and arse rape"Tenkage said:uhhh yeah *backs away slowly*radioactive lemur said:No, now fuck the hell off before I assrape you with a chainsaw.
Video games taught me to avoid people with chainsaws threatening to kill and/or rape meHappyNoodleBot said:Good move. Try some Googling to find out what people who post on the internet associate with violent behaviourTenkage said:I know what you meanAzaradel said:Now, if everything that people want you to believe causes violent behaviour actually did cause violent behaviour, I would be out on a killing spree right now.
This article (quoting a Harvard Medical School researcher) refers to concerns over games as "simple-minded". Good burn.Tenkage said:As part of an English project I'm writing a counter arguement paper against the whole, "Video Games cause violent behavior" and some data and input would be most useful for the paper. "The researchers also try to place video games in a larger context of popular culture. The anxiety many parents voice over video games largely mirrors the concerns raised when movies, comic books and television became popular."
On the other hand if want to take the opinion of some random yahoo on Yahoo answers then video games lead to drugs and robbery and generally being a loser.

Video games cause stupidity in our society. People play car racing games then they get in real cars and drive like it's a video game. Then they crash and kill people.
Also, sitting on your butt and playing video games means you are not reading a book or doing your homework. People who don't read books and don't do homework are less likely to get into college. Thus, a lot of people don't know what to do when they grow up, and they fall into low circles and hang around with other losers who play video games. They end up as aimless, lost 20 year olds who are angry and frustrated.
Then they get into drugs, and when that becomes a problem, they get into fights with other druggies, or they steal money so they can buy drugs. The video games helped them become losers. If they had parents that made them turn off the TV maybe they would have gone to college, gotten a decent job and been able to support themselves as adults."
