Well it has no influence on my buying decisions but i do think Yahtzee is a critic and a reviewer.

The reason most people would choose to not think that is because they are still crying over when he insulted that one game they really liked and he was right but that makes him not a reviewer because 'TEH GAME OWNZ UR TITTEHZ!'. Like that.

also, in the EP articles he always does raise very good points.

Other then that, he is ofcourse a comic, but he certainly is also a reviewer in my eyes.

Ok, I fail to see why I was quoted for this little tid bit of info, but congratulations.
Really? I thought that was pretty obvious. You pointed out that he influenced you to buy a game that disappointed you. I posted in reponse that he influnced me to buy a game I was happy with.
Yeah, that part was obvious, but the fact that you quoted me to say this seems sorta like a challenge, like my experience was wrong, which is a bit of a pointless endeavor. You expect me to change my mind or something? I'm not saying the man doesn't have taste, he apparently is a fan of Hitman Blood Money, which is my favorite stealth game of all time. I'm not saying he doesn't occasionally recommend a game that might be worth getting. I'm just saying that I can't trust the man for a review based on my experience, ie he powered thru Infamous and gave it a thumbs up for purchase, when that game is only fun for the amount of time he played it- 2 days, which is pretty irrelevent to your Saints Row experience.

At this point I don't think you can give a well informed review until you've played a game for at least a week, preferably two weeks. I doubt anyone gets this kind of luxury in the industry so I actually don't fully trust reviews in general, but Yahtzee is at the low end of my taking-things-seriously scale. Funny tho.

I was not challenging you. Your experience is not wrong. I don't expect me to change your mind. I have absolutely no idea how you infer these things into what I said (sharing my own perspective), but I apologize.

If yahtzee gets angry at a game for being shitty (and it's not a JRPG) it's usually a really shitty game.

Well it makes sense to me, but no harm no foul, I was obviously reading something you didn't intend. No biggie. Apologies for the misconception ;)

Nope. There's no reviewers opinion who I trust enough to solely make a decision on what game to buy.

Yahtzee does indeed influence my own buying decisions, but not to an extreme manner. I do realize that much of the content of his reviews are based on his own opinions with a slant towards the negative. I understand this is largely because when he reviewed Psychonauts, a number of his fans complained that he wasn't ripping on it. Ever since then there has never been a "positive" review of any game he has looked at. Sure there are moments when he discusses good parts of games, but for the most part the tense is on what he doesn't like about the particular video game. Yahtzee's reviews must be taken with a grain of salt to truly appreciate what he is trying to convey.

I tend to agreed with most of Yahtzee's reviews but if I'm really looking forward to a game I normal pick it up on the first day.

I'm just curious because I consider Yahtzee to be more of an insult comic and not so much a critic. He's certainly not a reviewer in my opinion. I love ZP and think they're mostly hilarious but it has little to no influence on my purchase decisions. How about you?
Yahtzee is funny, but his comment that "I'm increasingly convinced that I'm the only person on Earth whose brain works properly.", and other such comments show him to be a comic more than a reviewer. That's fine. If the Escapist paid for my games and asked me to put together a short video of my thoughts on it, I'd be doing the same.

As for my buying decisions, since I work for Gamestop, I rent my games before I buy them. Trying them first is always the best way, then I look back at what Yahtzee said.

Overall though, I don't use any reviewer's comments on a game to consider it as a buy.

Yahtzee is one of the most truthful and merciless game critics out there. If he rips a game to pieces, I'd rather not buy it.
Of course, sometimes I'd buy games first before Yahtzee decides to make a review out of it, and in other cases I just ignore him and buy the damn game.

Personally, I take his reviews with a grain of salt. I am a Wii owner and he seems to hate every title on the Wii, so if I listened to him I'd never buy anything. I still watch him because I find his videos funny now and then.
