So as many poeple are undoubtedly aware, people can no longer use the swastika in any form in their Black Ops emblem. I've seen a couple threads about this and seen man peopel posting their opinions, so I thought I'd put up a poll to get some numbers, just out of curiosity. So, what do you think? Ban or no Ban?

I personally am 100% for the ban.

Personally, I'd rather they banned vulgar emblems from Black Ops.
But I don't mind about the Swastika being banned. I neither agree, nor disagree.
I just want people with vile emblems to get the hammer as well >.>

If you ban the swastika, then you also have to ban the hammer and sickle, no if's, ands or buts. Double standards much?

Nope, not in the slightest. Especially when you have a Zombie level covered in them. Its double standards. They can use them creatively, but the community can't. I am 100% against any form of censorship.

People are clearly just using it to piss off others.

That is not what Freedom of speech had in mind. I am also of the mind that the other vulgar things should be banned. At least suspended/warning.

However this is what happens when you give people power. They invariably use it to be giant assholes.

On one hand I'm against people using it all together but on the other if you're going to ban one vulgar emblem why decide not to ban all the others?

No, it's called free speech, bitches.
While that is arguable, Microsoft owns XBL and are thus those who make the rules on it. I don't think free speech can/should be implemented when we're talking things that are privately owned.

While I think we should all get over the swastika and remember it's true meaning, I can't blame them for wanting to take precautions. People are still so sensitive about it, moreso people don't know that the Swastika is a multi-cultural symbol.

I don't agree with the ban of swastikas, you can see them in the history channels 24/7 (at least in Germany) and that's better? You tell me little children can watch documentaries about WWII and see those swastikas, but when swastikas are put into a game (for over 18 year olds) they turn them in Nazis or something?

Yea right...

They use them to represent the people you are fighting, if you have it as an emblem you are using to state that you are supporting it. Regardless of whether or not you do, that is how it will be construed.

Just cus' someone does happen to have the swastika as an emblem it doesn't mean that they intend to go and curb stomp some Jews, it's just a symbol, symbols do not kill, its the people behind them that do, so if someone had the gamer tag 'Adolf Hitler was great' I may be more inclined to ban them.

On a totally un-related note, does Kino have any textures left uncensored?

No, not really. The Hammer and Sickle was representative of a series of leaders and time periods in the 20th Century Soviet Union, many of which varied from Stalin. However the Swastika is associated (primarily, any fucking idiot who says it has a different meaning is wrong. I don't care what it meant before the Nationalist Socialists, it's a Nazi symbol.) directly with the one leader and regime - Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany.

And to "boil it down" and suggest that Stalin killed more people than Hitler, I counter by saying that Hitler's actions caused more deaths than Stalin's. World War 2, a conflict which was driven by Hitler, resulted in 70 million casualties. 70 million. That's like if you executed literally everyone in the United Kingdom, and then the population of Scotland once again.

Hitler was, indisputably, more of a "bad guy" than Stalin, and his symbol represents that.

OT : Yes. It's one thing for the Nazi soldiers to be wearing them. They did wear Swastikas and had Swastika flags on their buildings. But the players who have them as their emblem are, bluntly, trolls. Or possibly Nazis, but far more likely to be people trying to be "edgy" and get a rise by using on of the single most recognisably terrible symbols in the world.

Nope, apart from the matter of free speech I think it is hard for people to realise the nazis did not ' invent' (by lack of a better word) the swastika.
I am not exactly sure where the symbol came from (it has been a long time since I opened a history book, but I am pretty sure it is also a symbol of power in the Hindu religion.
Make no mistake, Hitler saw the symbol and its meaning and though "hey, that is cool, i am going to use this for my own party" and basically ruined it for the original owners.

Yes, I agree. The people who are making swastika's for use as their emblems, aren't doing it to make a statement, or to be historically relevant.
They're doing it because they think it's funny, and they know it pisses people off.
These people are a sort of cancer on the gaming community, and they deserve every ounce of punishment they get.

I approve of the ban because of the reasons mentioned by the dude in the article. Even if you are doing it to make a statement, the people who see your swastika are not going to know anything other than you are a Nazi or trying to make trouble.

The swastika has meaning beyond that of just Nazi Germany. A quick look at wikipedia will tell you that.

Sorry, I think I'm a bit muddled, you're saying that the Hammer and Sickle was not ONLY representative of Stalin?

But someone's an idiot for saying that the Swastika is a symbol that was never intended for Hitler's use, and so was not ONLY representative of Hitler?

Or am I getting it wrong here?
(Not trying to start a fight, just confused)

OT: Nope. Simple as that. I have nothing new to contribute.
