Old games, sure, recently I bought 3 used game for a low price of $30 not bad considering I wanted all of them.
It had discs and a steam code, but in this case, the discs were almost certainly coasters, because I'm sure the code had already been used. So yes, I think they benefit as much as anyone thinks they do. It's more likely that most people have NO IDEA how much they benefit. They wouldn't be in business without the used business, put it that way.
Yes, gamestop offers a service, and they should benefit from it, but this is far from benefit, its a monopoly that basically rapes gamers because they have no other choice. Even a brand new game sold back to Gamestop on release day has them getting paid $30 or less, and Gamestop selling it for $55. They are paying you 30 dollars less than retail, and selling it for 5 dollars less. Does that sound right? No, it just sounds like your only choice. They make as much as you do on the transaction, and it's YOUR GAME. It's bs and not worth defending.
Luckily online trading sites are starting to pop up to combat this, I'm using http://gamestaq.com right now, and getting twice what GameStop would pay me in store credit. I won't even think about how much cash they would offer (25% less, always). I'm also selling directly to other gamers, with the website taking a small fee, something like 5% as opposed to basically a +90%-150% fee at GameStop. Plus I don't have to leave the house even, let alone enter their stores and be bombarded with up-sells and subscriptions etc.
It sounds to me like you work there, everyones gotta make a living, but as a gamer you should not be supporting this mistreatment of your fellow gamers. I'm not saying you should quit, but don't go defending their horrendous practices aimed at lining their pockets.
As a matter of fact, I do work there. I do hate the idea of giving gamers about a dollar for a game. Heck, I even feel ashamed to tell them how much they're getting and I even go as far as suggesting to sell their game instead to a friend or online or something.greggor said:

Will they do something about it? No, it's a corporation. That's the harsh reality. But you know what I find its even worse than all this? People spending around 500 in games when they could do so much more with that money. Like I said, I see it everyday. Personally, I spend around 50 dollars in games in a period of 6 months and I'm pleased with it.
So, if there's ever a store that sells trash for a thousand dollars and people buy it, the store is not to blame. People are to blame for buying trash at that price. The store is just smarter than them, I guess. I'm not justifying Gamestop, I'm just saying that they're just doing their thing and people seem to be ok with it.
Very rarely, as I found the usual $5 saving not enough to off-set the inconvenience of the two or three defective games I've run afoul of (two of the first four 360 games I bought had to be returned).
I only buy them if it's the only option available or if there's a considerable savings involved. Anything less than $10 isn't worth it for me.

I used to buy used games quite a lot--so I voted yes.
However, in the last couple of years, Gamestop has been charging almost the same amount of money for a used game as for a new game. If I'm looking at $60 for a brand new game or $55 for a used game, I'm buying the new game.

Quite rarely. I trade in a lot though. I only really buy used when I absolutely cannot afford a full priced game that I feel I need to own.
If I have to own a physical copy and if it is not Assassin's Creed, I buy used. I don't really have the money to throw at new games.
That's just for GOOD games. The bargain bin has stuff for $6, where the new stuff is standard new game asking price. x3trooper6 said:

Only if there is no other copy available, otherwise no. I don't really care about the publisher's profits or any of that. Personally, I have a hard time sympathizing with extremely rich men who whine about not being as rich as they could be all the while sipping $1000 champagne and lighting cigars with $100 bills. No for me there's something, I don't know, authentic? no that's not it... genuine? no that's not it either. Well it feels much more mine when I buy the game new anyway.
Yes but I buy my favourites brand new. Nothing beats the New Game Manual smell, and the guarantee that no clumsy sod's tried to repair it.
