Halo is the symbol of everything that is wrong with shooters.

It's too short, too easy, and everything has a fuckton of REGENERATING HEALTH.
I trust you've never played Halo on Legendary?

And no, I really don't care about the console wars. Anyone with half a brain knows that people have differing tastes and needs.
Not the third one but the first two, played and beat. Dying in four shots is meaningless when you can regenerate all your health in ~10 seconds. If you dont play like a moron, you'll beat it with only a few deaths.

Don't forget limited weapon capacity.

God damn it I don't want to have to decide whether to switch out my atmomic nail gun for a chainsaw bazooka or gatlin weasel. Why can't I just carry all of 'em?
Gentlemen! There is no flaming in the war room
Exactly, that's why we're fighting instead.
This man got my back, yo.

Sadly, no. Fanboys will be fanboys. I will defend something if someone makes a retarded or just plain false statement, but I don't care otherwise.

I hear people have opinions, apparently. Combine this with anonymity and you have more chance of flames than on cigar night at the distillery-cum-oil-refinery.

Videogames are pretty bad, admittedly, largely due to the disappointing lack of social skills that many people attracted to obsessive gaming have, but it's still pretty awful everywhere on the internet and, indeed, real life. I know people who know that one make of motorbike is THE BEST EVER YOU IDIOT!!! Same with films, clothes, art, whatever.

Clearly, opinions are bad news, and we should all submit our wills to a despotic computer hive-intelligence to avoid them.

Not quite, I can deal with "elitists" it's more the complete idiots like the little 12 year olds etc. who just flame simply because you are beating them and bring up immature arguments like "your mum" etc. if someone is legitimately beating you at a game I see no reason why they shouldn't brag a little granted so long as it's all in good fun, we all do it.

I actually do care.

But not in the sense you are thinking of at least. I hope the fanboys continue to squabble, bite and gnash at one another it is quite humourous to watch the feeble arguments they come up with but then again there is the odd one or two that make my brain wonder how they haven't drowned in the shower yet.

People by their very nature are often illogical, stubborn, blind to other's ideas, elevates their own ideas too highly, egotistical, narcissistic twats. As long as there are human beings, there will be disagreements of embarrassing scale.

Discussions and debates are fine, but such things can quickly descend into flame wars.

Sorry, but no; most people will never take that sort of view on things.

I salute those that do respect others opinions, though. This salute goes out to the OP as well, since he seems to have the right idea.

People might eventually learn to get over themselves and everyone's differences, and make such respect a majority, but it's a long, LONG way off I think.

I believe that people will eventually settle down. I also believe that poverty will be wiped out eventually, that we will avcheive world peace, and that I am an idealistic, naive idiot.

Of course not. But I want to say this: If you're saying that *insert product here* is the biggest pile of shit in existence, you shouldn't be surprised if fans get angry at you. It's all about provocation, and people will never stop that.

i can deal with that, even though i dont brag, i guess im humble, unless it comes to AI's, i have no idea why but i love beating the computer more than an actual person, for reasons unknown, but obviously your talking about online, which if you talk trash, its more then likely going to happen back to you wether they are 12 or 20, i've seen it happen despite the "stereotypes". and if your that worried about talking trash to a youngin then i really dont see the point of enjoying online

I follow reviews for games before I think about buying a game myself, but there have been situations where I liked a game that was considered bad, and I'm extremely picky when it comes to games.

It'll never happen unfortunately because everyone has their own opnion and everyone usually thinks that theres is the superior one therefore unless your willing to back down there can be no solution.
We're stuck we're were at unfortunately but well some things are born out of that venom and are great because of the fanboydom and everything

No. This is a human trait that has existed forever. Only with certain "nerd" aspects do we give it the light hearted fanboyism moniker. (ie video game consoles, movies, comics)
Issac v Ishmael
Allah v Christ
Red Sox v Yankees
Cubs v logic and common sense
Right v Left
Red v Blue
Black v White
Capitalism v Socialism
Xbox v PS3

It's all the same. Everybody has a desire to be on the right side of the argument no matter what it is.

Well there has clearly been the recent thread about the console war (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.166162?page=1) but i wan't to focus on a larger aspect.

Why do people care so much about their issues.

Can consoles not be enjoyable for some and PC for others?
Can exclusive games be a bravo for the parent company?
Can Halo not just be another shooter you like or dislike?
Can opinion be personal and not viewed as fact?
Can games be bad for me but great for you?
Can we not all just get along?

My question is:
Do you think the venomous gaming community can ever just leave everyone to their own devices?

I know this could escalate to horror, so please guys, keep it clean.
Hey, thats me. I would have to say "no" or at least not for the general community that actually care about games (young, immature little pre-pubecent boys). The rest of us can do all of those things you listed because we like games because they are fun, not because they make us feel more manly (I dunno why some people think that they are better than every one else because they have a high level or achievement in whatever game).

You know back in the 90s and even before that their were heated debates going on about which console to own....when I was a teenager it was Sega Genesis vs. SNES.

Lucky there was no internet back then so you weren't as exposed to as many opinions as you are today.

Back in the 90s I only remember once hearing the argument over SG vs. SNES and it was between my friends and we all ended up playing both systems since kids will always be opportunists...lol

The thing is people who are like this are just trolls and looking for a fight they will never just accept people can have a different opinion than them. They will also not accept that they can e wrong. As much as I would like them to disappear or shut up they never will.
