I haven't celebrated any of my gains. I think mostly because unless I did something big (like I've noticed people write long essays on games) people wouldn't care because I'm not a very recognizable member of this site, and I don't have the patience to write an essay if there's no deadline.

Post count is good for one thing only: telling how many times you've posted. That's it. It's absolutely nothing worth celebrating,.

It's ironic that this thread basically is a so called "celebration thread."
But I've never actually seen any others before, but if I did, they would probably irritate me.

I don't mind it. I think it's cool actually. Planning on one for 5000. Also for 20000 if I ever make it that far (which is highly unlikely, as I don't post on everything...only stuff I find interesting/amsuing/rageworthy)

You see them pretty often; threads where people celebrate their 1000/2500/5000/etc.'s post...

- do you hate it when people do that? - or do you think that they deserve a little celebration?
I despise them... the only number worth celebrating anyway is 666, the number of our great lord and master...

Nah, it's all in good fun. If I ever get up high enough where I feel like my post count is anything but an arbitrary number, then I might make one myself.

They don't bother me. I made a thread at 5000 posts. It didn't do well.

I will not be making another post celebration thread.

No. I don't have to post if I don't want to, and I usually don't.

This one was more subtle, though, so I decided to post. Yay?

I don't really care. I think it would be better though, for there to be one centralized thread where everyone interested in making note of their post count would post.

It depends.

If it's just "Yay, look at my post count" then yes, they're bad.

However, if the user thinks 'Hmmm... I should make a thread to celebrate, what topic could I write about', and we end up with a good thread with a celebration bit to it as well then that's great, because people tend to try harder then.

I am not bothered by them, though I think they should add something to talk about in the topic.

Only if it's the only thing they talk about. I remember a few months back when we had a lot of celebratory threads for 1K, 5K and 10K, they just sprung out of the woodwork. But as long as they have some discussion, it's fine.

If I understand correctly, before I arrived, it was a tradition to do a review for each milestone. I missed my 10K, did a review for of one of my favourite films for 20K, was planning a tag-team review for my 30K but that got canned due to problems and my 40K blew by without nothing happening. And my 50K, as it's inevitable unless I get banned, I might do something. Probably a small review again.
