I made one for lulz. Then people I know started adding me, so I let them. I use it to make fun of the many people who have added me.

Personally, I haven't added anyone on Facebook to my friends, because I really don't think it is an appropriate way to actually communicate. However, it is damn useful for setting up online games for things like Warzone 2100, which thanks to Facebook, I was able to get a few of my friends into it.

Other than that I post jokes, and I troll all my friend's pages. That's about it, I check it like twice a week.

No, and I don't really see the point of it. Also, the fact that everyone constantly goes on about it and that it's omnipresent everywhere, including the Escapist, makes me outright hate it.

I have one.

* Work requires it
* I can find out what people I know are doing without having to actually talk to the annoying pricks
* I can help my girlfriend play Facebook games
* Hell, I met my current girlfriend through a party invite I got hooked up through FB, what's not to like
* Instant communication with lots of people has its benefits

and best of all

* I get to annoy too-cool-for-FB internet hipsters just by having one

Do not have.
Do not need.
Do not want.

What? Are you expecting more? The friends of mine who do have it don't use it often, and the rest don't have it and I couldn't care less about random classmates from 2004...

Not only that but boradcasting your private life to the internet is incredibly stupid, For example it might make you feel good to boast you are going away for 2 weeks to your friends, but to a criminal thats just saying yes my house is going to be empty for 2 weeks please rob it.
Of course, you don't HAVE to post what your address, phone number, or actual city is. Plus they have privacy setting so that only friends will be able to so your info.

OT: I have one and it's pretty useful to communicate with all my friends and bandmates.

Nope! I don't plan to get one. I don't want people to be able to quickly search me and find out all that personal info. Kinda scary...
Again, you don't HAVE to post any more contact info than your freaking first name.

Yeah I do, I use it to stay in contact with friends I don't see all the time and lets me keep track of different events that are being planned.

No, and I'm not interested. I do have a Hyves though, which is sort of a Dutch equivalent, without the whole international thing.

I just use it to keep up to date on what people are doing. Many of the people I'm not even really friends with. I just love the data stream.

I do have Facebook. I use it to keep in touch with friends I like and flame those I don't.

anyone who's anyone has a facebook
i'm on it pretty much daily
but that's only really because i'm always having conversations
it's generally how you meet new people too
i love it all, in fact add me from my escapist profile if you'd want to
if i had something better to do than socialising
(which is basically: eating, sleeping or shagging)
then maybe i wouldn't
but as it stands, socialising online is one persons idea of time well spent (I.E. me)
and it's not other peoples. and that's fair enough

Nah, my 'social networking site' is called the pub. Call me old fashioned, but if I want to catch up with my friends I like to sit down and have some face-to-face banter with them. In the words of Dave Gorman: "That's one of the many things you do with friends - meet them."

That having been said, of the other people in my office at the moment, Phil used to be on Facebook but got rid of his account a few years back and Jo is an absolute addict who is online every spare moment she gets.
I find it funny. The way you phrase it, its like you don't think people use facebook to arrange pub visits XD

Or in my case, gig and festival mentionings and asking if anyone wants to go. I've only got people I like on facebook, so it works out.
I get that most people will just use Facebook in a casual manner to arrange get-togethers, but (to use the example of co-worker and Facebook addict Jo as an example) some people use it as almost their sole form of social interaction. Jo will sit at her desk all day updating her profile and sending messsages to her friends, but then not meet up with them after she's finished work because as far as she's concerned she's already caught up with them. It's that particular mentality I can't get my head around.
There is always the few that take the medium of communication to extreme levels.

This is also my point. People always say the same "oh but it lets you get back in touch will old mates" yeah and the reason why I stopped talking to them in the first place was because they were dicks why would I want to talk to people I used to know? If they were good friends they would still be my friends lol.
