I was thinking about CODMW2 and it made think about how i miss dedicated servers, but does anybody else like them to?
People threatened never to buy cod mw2 if it didn't have dedicated servers.
People set up a petition so that it could have dedicated servers.
People are trying to mod it so it can have dedicated servers.

Now looking at the points above, do you wonder whether or not people like dedicated servers? I'm still not sure...
Im aware of the petition and the modders but i was taking about dedicated servers in genral and not just about CODMW2, i also wanted to see if people still felt the same about dedicated servers know.

I don't see why you wouldn't want dedicated servers even on console. It's just so nice to have a group of people you're used to playing with, and you still have the random people who join.

I think they're loads of fun to have custom matches, but I would still prefer Matchmaking for standard matches and to level up.
You can have both of those on dedicated servers.

I don't play on PC and I know what dedicated servers are. So I guess I'm drunk. Although I really don't see why consoles can have dedicated servers. Point being, Fuck you Activision!

Yes. Very very fucking yes. After playing the Kayne & Lynch 2 demo, I am really really missing having a dedicated server instead of having to connect to someone that's playing the game on an Amiga Vic-20 with a hamster on a wheel in place of a router.

Agreed, without good dedicated servers connecting is a crapshoot

Dedicated servers till I die. It's nice getting to know regulars on a server and having fun together. When admined properly it also stops the usage of aimbots and hacks.

P2P seems like a shit talk fest pretty much all the time from my experience.

God yes.

Matchmaking is a miserable affair; if you can play on the same server regularly then you can find one catered to exactly how you want to play, and with like-minded people.

I only really played the baldur's gate series on PC, but as I'm a huge supporter of the Mod community for any game i am all for dedicated servers

I know what dedicated servers and I love them. I just want to know how a person creates them. Do they pay the developer money for server bandwith? Because if that's the case, I really don't understand why a company would want to pay the money for matchmaking.

But they still went out and bought MW2 so it proves that they really dont care and will buy games regardless.

Honestly I couldnt care less if a game has dedicated servers or not. They dont add or take away a hole lot from the game. It would never ever have anything at all to do with my decision to purchase a game.
Not having dedicated servers removes a lot from a game, stable communities, stable connections (a couple bad connections and the whole thing can be useless), moderators making it a hell of a lot easier for hackers and griefers, the options for custom game modes and mods, server size is also decreased (average MW game 32 or 24 slot server, MW2 12 slots) You miss out on a LOT without dedicated servers.

Yes! I remember having Xbox Live for my 360 and playing Gears of War, a rather popular Microsoft exclusive no less, but the Lag was unbearable and I wanted to choke someone every time. I don't play online anymore, but I refuse to pay $50 for Live and have psn if I ever desire to go back online. I think that some games like Resistance have dedicated servers.
