I find it funny that whenever someone doesn't like something they have to make a huge deal out of it. Like someone said before me "don't like it? Close it down". It's just that simple really. I don't like the show and I've watched both episodes fully. It's not my cup of tea as they say but if you do like it fair enough more power to ya.

Actualy Extra Credits is just as opinionated they just dont out right admit its an opinion. Theyre whole metriod episode was an opion, their view on the future of video games was an opion and their idea of of game mechanics and story structure are opinions, they have a little research but not enough to take what they say as fact. Simply put they are a highly liberal show that puts games on a golden pedestal that I frankly dont think it deserves to be on anytime in the near future. In short they just appeal more to the escapist then the short of hard news style opinion work jim does, I dont realy care for either though.

The difference is that there are some shows on The Escapist that I dislike, but they aren't BAD and I can see why they might be to someone elses taste. The Jimquisition is a terribly written, horribly presented and awfully performed piece of utter drivel and The Escapist suffers by putting it's name on it.

I've never seen someone manage to talk for so long without actually saying anything useful, let alone witty, and I am at a loss as to how anyone can actually enjoy it.

Snark requires a certain talent to pull off as a form of entertainment and for my tastes, Sterling does not entertain. I couldn't make it through the first of his videos on this website. I forced myself to get through the second one, but in the end I still didn't like what I saw or heard in the way of presentation. I've also shown it to other people who don't visit this website -- because I wanted to discuss the point he was trying to make in his second video -- and some of them couldn't make it all the way through his speech, either. IMHO, presentation truly is everything because even when you have a valid point (not saying he did or didn't), if you can't present it well enough, no one's going to want to hear it.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was thinking as well. Don't get me wrong, I like to laugh at some full-blown rants on how certain things are terrible, but they're usually full of clever wordplay and that's what makes me smile when I listen to them. It's not always about the fact that the person's complaining--It's about the poetic way the complaint is conveyed.

So yeah. I don't care for Jimquisition. I don't hate him; I hardly know the guy. But I don't intend to keep watching his part on The Escapist.

From all his tweets they all seem fair, the escapist is an open community normal and one of the best, but for some reason becuase they dont like his show and think it should be banished into the dark.

I dont get why you have to say it should be here if you dont like it, I dont like or watch most the shows and I dont say get rid of them. All in all I enjoy it therfore it should not be stopped.

People have copied and pasted those comments from his twitter, the escapist seems fine with swearing as long as it is not aimed at someone in the forums which is why no one has been banned for quoting his swears.

i've enjoyed some of his writing for destructoid, but a large part of what draws me to the Escapist is the capability with which they handle the complex, meaningful social issues of gaming, especially with regards to things like gender; as well as the humor they are to draw to such discussions. Jim simply hasn't been able to live up to either standard, so far.

edit: i don't particularly care if he's canceled or not. if it fails to hold my interest, i'll simply ignore it like i do so many others.

Someone made a post somewhere in this thread that I wanted to reply to, but couldn't find the time between studying for an exam, and meager sleep hours I maintain these days. I can't find the comment, but it was something along the lines (and I'm being quite generic) "why can't you let the show be? Why demand it be cancled? Why even acknowledge it's there if it's so horrible." Something like like. Anyway, to address that point;

It's been revealed that Jim also hosts a show at Demonoid, and routinely antagonizes his own fanbase/people that watch his show. If he maintains the same routine here on the escapists, it undermines the principles of discussion that the site has maintained for years. It's bad enough that half the forum users lead their discussions assuming that anyone that disagrees with them is an idiot, but when the content providers are doing it, it's a whole new level of antagonism that is simply not needed. I'd never leave a site because of a hand full of users, but I would leave a side because of providers.

It's also important to remember that the Escapists is a content rich site. The content is their service, and we are the people that service is intended for. The Escapists create the frame work, but we define what the community, and the nature of the site. When something that doesn't fit the framework enters the picture, the nature of the community takes notice. I feel that Jim is that apple (or rather, piece of fried food in this case) among oranges.

The thing about Jim Sterling and the reason why I defend him is because:
- He isn't a comedian like Yahtzee (Not really a Comedian, just enough of one)
- He's about as opinionated as Moviebob (Except Moviebob liked Watchmen, and I have yet to hear that from Sterling)
- He's not quite so biting in 6 minutes as he is in say, A two-hour podcast (Where he shines at criticism)
And he does have something to say, it's just that he's trying to cram too much language and jokes into it all. Granted, I laughed at the line of Marcus Fennix saying "Who Wants Toast?" on his last video, but that's the only time I laughed.

Still, in a site about video games, where Yahtzee only touches on one - two games a week, Moviebob does either movies or rants and Ms. Foiles isn't giving up a top 5 for a little while (hoping it's only a little while), Jim Sterling is the only video game centric person on The Escapist short of going into the gaming Forums every second of the day.
