Here's a few of Jim's comments on Twitter about those who critised his videos, I'll let them speak for themselves:

Why should we respect this man if he won't respect us?

Because the escapist started it, with these awful lets get rid of him threads.
From all his tweets they all seem fair, the escapist is an open community normal and one of the best, but for some reason becuase they dont like his show and think it should be banished into the dark.

I dont get why you have to say it should be here if you dont like it, I dont like or watch most the shows and I dont say get rid of them. All in all I enjoy it therfore it should not be stopped.

Should I start threads asking for shows to be removed it only seems fair?

In my opinion calling your critics "fucking morons" or "proper elitist cunts" isn't respectful or nice, if a regular user on this site called another user that they're be put on probation if they're lucky, worse if they're not. As a contributer he should be above that sort of thing, just because a few users (most critics including myself are keeping it civil) are over-acting doesn't mean he is entitled do the same.

I agree. While it was a really dumb thing to do to respond like that on twitter, I can't say that forum-goers are being very open-minded. We're only 2 episodes in and already people are trying to get his show removed. I can think of at least two shows on Escapist that I can't get 30 seconds into without wanting to throw things at the cast/presenter, but I don't go ranting about it in the comments and demand that the show be removed.

And the comparisons are pretty retarded, come on. How is he anything like Extra Credits?

I'd say judging by the amount of threads about him he's definitely provoked discussion. But I get that's not what you mean.

I think you mean he doesn't entertain you (and a lot of other people). He does entertain me (and a lot of other people). That's what's pissing me off about this hate directed at him a lot of it is:

"I don't care if other people like him, I don't so I want him off the site completely. Because I'm too much of a spoiled, entitled shit to just not watch something I don't like. If I can't enjoy it no one can!"

(That's not aimed at you BTW, just the general tone of people saying he should go.)

fair enough. But I do think then, it is prudent for Escapist staff to figure out whether or not he is truly working as an entertainer. And if the feedback on him is positive enough, hey, maybe he should stay, despite the wide amount of hate. (Controversy generates buzz, after all) But then this necessitates to us having to give feedback. As such, I don't think it's wrong for people who don't like him to say so. (which, I don't think you have said, but I believe that was my original intention for posting)

I concur completely. I managed to force myself through both episodes of his show, and while I think it's not particularly funny or insightful, I don't hate the show for it's content. What I do hate about the show is that it's providing a negative image that people can associate with gamers. Does the Escapist benefit from associating itself with a troll who can't be bothered to do anything but rant and draw shitty graphics with MS Paint? Should the Escapist really pay someone to make inferior content while calling their user base "ignorant elitist cunts"?

If you can't respect your employer and you can't respect the opinions of your viewers, then you don't deserve any respect in return.

My complaint with Jimquisition isn't that his show "goes too far" or whatever.

I get that its meant to be satirical, but I take issue that it just isn't very good satire.

I don't walk away from his videos thinking "that was funny" or "that was interesting". I walk away thinking "that was pointless".

With Moviebob and Extra Credits around the show seems entirely superfluous and I feel the bandwidth would be better spent hosting something different. Get a sketch comedy troupe together or something. It can't be any worse than what is currently available.

Unless you get something like nigahiga or Fred (fothermucking) Figglehorn on The Escapist. In which case I would leave the site forever because it would prove that the people in charge of this site have no taste, nor grasp of humour.

I'm not calling myself a master satirist by any means, and I imagine that my own efforts to do a similar show would be of lower quality, but I would say that surely there is someone out there who can do a better job than this...

Side gripe: Why does the Daily Drop exist? I get that its dirt cheap to do and really, really, really, really fucking easy to make (step 1: pick up random object, step 2: drop random object), but seriously... Is it just a way to say "videos posted daily"?

Well yeah, it was a stupid move on his behalf, and evidently he thinks so do. That doesn't change the fact that he did it though, just because he's realised it.

Replied to one of these threads yesterday... Saw this one so I thought I better go see what it's all about....

Short answer? its good. The second ep was quite funny, made some good points. It's not my favorite thing on here but it's a good addition.

I think he should keep making shows. I'll watch them.

My question is... if you can't stand him... WHY OH WHY OH WHY do you concern yourself with it? Don't like it? CLOSE THE WINDOW! then proceed to say to yourself, "Wow, I didn't enjoy that. Meh who cares, let's go watch something I DO enjoy instead and never think about it again."

I concerned myself with it the first time when I tried to watch an unreleated video and a huge ad surrounded the screen and after watching that unrelated video I either had to click on the link to watch that Jimqusition stuff or close the window altogether. Not a good first impression.

I try not to be mean but I honestly can't find anything interesting, informative, funny or entertaining about this show.
Plus after overlooking an article that details some of the colourful terms Mr. Sterling has said in his game commentary and twitter posts in regards to women, I'm not really a fan of the man himself either.

Seriously? Thats your argument? Because we started it? Are you 5? By the way use some punctuation. If you're a contributor to this website you're expected to have some restraint and take the good with the bad not lash out like a child when you find out that people don't like you. You are expected to act like a professional.

There was a thread around a day or so ago complaining he was sexist. I added 'well if he's being serious yes, chuck him off, otherwise it's probably ok'. I then went to watch his latest video, and he's "ok" I don't think I'll watch anymore unless the title grabs me, but he is clearly not being literal in many of his comments.

And if he is being sexist (towards women, it might not need to be said), then let 'women' complain about it! That's my two cents.

If no one has noticed, he tries WAYYYYY to hard to be Lewis Black. Look his stuff up if you don't believe me. This hit me immediately as that's what I thought the logo looked like. He tries to make a humorous rant about a problem, and then perhaps tries to make some humorous solutions to said problem.

The thing is, he ISN'T Lewis Black. His rants aren't angry or funny enough and he doesn't have hilarious vocals to match. I think this ruins it for me, cuz even though Jim can be funny, I'm constantly comparing him to Lewis Black which makes him seem unfunny.

I'd just like to point out that there's no such thing as bad press. We always say 'don't feed the troll' on the forums, and topics like these are doing exactly that. He's trolling everybody hardcore and it feels like people don't quite seem to realise it. He's not trying to be another MovieBob or Yahtzee, and the fact he has a fair amount of notoriety outside of the escapist (Spoiler alert: Destructoid) says something about the people here and Jim Sterling himself. If people here don't look outside of this website into other gaming communities, other professionals, reviewers, commentators and general content then surely this kind of OMGWHAT reaction is to be expected when that content is introduced to you all of a sudden. I'm sure Jim's supporters would probably look at the Escapist and think we all have a stick up our arse because we're trying to be high brow and can't see outside of our little bubble.

I think we (or perhaps just the editors of the escapist) need to address if we want to continue staying in our bubble or if we want to be a part of the gaming community as a whole, because we can't just react violently whenever we're introduced to new material like this. All we're doing is feeding the troll and giving Jim exactly what he's after. Either embrace this other line of thought or don't include it at all. I wonder if the editors had a feeling this kind of overall reaction would emerge and hence why they hired Jim in the first place. It's genius, really. Introduce something inflammatory, everyone watches it to see what all the fuss is about, and suddenly you've got hits in the hundreds.

As i said, i initally didn't like Jim at -all- but having seen and read some of his other stuff on Destructoid, i can see some valid points being made. You've just got to accept that he's trolling you first.
