Dude, zombies aren't much of a threat (It will be like Dead rising) Killbots are the real threat, and a sword won't do much against them. Besides, you want a bludgeoning weapon when fighting zombies as an edged weapon will probably get stuck in one when you are mobbed and then you are screwed.

I went through a phase in which i would list reassons to my family why i needed a sword, the top being that ninjas could attack at any moment and the fact that we do not see them makes them especially dangerous. Then i did say that it would be useful during a break in but i would need a wakisashi because of the small hallways. However, after hours of pleading, i never go one. Now, well insufficient funds would be the main reason for no sword but some day...

Well, I do but I think I'd rather use my rubber-ended stick. At least if I drop that I don't get cut.

It works well discouraging people, but probably doesn't do more than +1 damage.

I guess I should upgrade to crowbar...

If not, why? Zombie's a comin one day, and the chainsaws all the way out in the tool shed. I guess you could use a gun, but wheres the fun in that?
There's nothing better than the good old machete for killing zombies. One swing can cleave through bone and it's short enough so that you can stab a grapplin' zombie through the skull

But for pure beauty in motion you gotta have the katana. That thing can cut it's way through three guys in less than a tenth of a second. A swordgasm If I've ever known one.

I own a katana, a rapier, and a hand and a half bastard sword. All are combat ready, not showroom replicas.

I would never ever rely on them for protection though...I have guns for that. :D
Holy crap! There's some diversity!
OT: No, I do not. Wish I did, though, but I'll probably get a machete instead, according to the Zombie Survival Guide.

I'm saving up the cash to forge my own Gallic sword. Until then, I'll have to do with my replica spatha.

I have 2 knives, that are very "nerdly" decorated (one is a dragon, the other is a scorpion). I also have a katana, a wakizashi, a kodachi, and a couple broadswords. Most of em are just for show, especially the knives, but the katana and wakizashi are full-contact use. (And they're sharpened >:D)

I have a scottish made hand-and-a-half (bastard) sword from my 14th century reenactment days, ah good times. Fought many a battle, though they were fake it was good fun. Never forget going up against a unit of guys dressed in full plate at tewkesbury. Our group wore padded cloth armour... Needles to say we got utterly spanked.

Yes, the sword i'm holding in my avatar is a WW2 Japanese Office Sword that was used to execute various prisoners in Manchuria.

I own a couple, but they're cheap replica things that are as blunt as fook and won't kill anything if they break off in the first zombie skull.

The two-hander is heavy as fook too.

I am rather without sword, though I've owned a few knives in my life. I wouldn't mind having one around. Rapiers and other fencing weapons are good for personal defense as they give you substantial control over the amount of damage inflicted, assuming at least some training.

That said, I'd want something with a bit more umph if it came to zombies. A little rapier loses its effectiveness when turned against something bereft of working internal structures and pain receptors.
